January 2021
A Message from 2021 EOC President, Carla Zapotek

Let me begin by saying thank you to each and every member for your continued support this year. From PBA staff, Senior Officers, the Board of Directors, my fellow executive officers and of course, our members, I am proud to be part of the Pennsylvania Builders Association!

As incoming President of the PBA EOC, I feel I have the unique opportunity to look at our organization and this council with fresh eyes coming from the background of a builder. This perspective allows me to ensure we are listening to and meeting the needs of our Members. PBA continues to be the leading voice on issues we/you face in the housing industry at the local, state, and national level. My goal is to work with PBA leadership and the Executive Officers Council to protect your interests while providing opportunities to build lasting relationships with our Members and our Community.

The EOC has been led by many fierce leaders, most recently Ashley Fickel, and I want to thank all of you for paving the way. This year, Keri O’Shea joins our EOC leadership as Vice President bringing with her, knowledge and experience. I was pleased to see the increased participation this year and to keep the momentum, I have one small request- Get Involved, Stay Connected and Encourage others to do the same. I also ask that you take a moment to think how I might be able to help you advance the successes of our local associations. Please feel free to reach out and/or share during our first meeting of the year on January 20, 2021.

As we plan ahead and dive right into to 2021, I’d like to share my daily motto that I try to apply in all areas of my life. It is something that keeps me in check and focused on each large and small task - Be Positive. Be Proactive. Be Organized. Be Specific.

On behalf of myself and everyone at PBA, thank you for your continued support and Best Wishes for the new year ahead!

Meet Chuck Hamilton, Lehigh Valley BA EO

How long have you been an EO? - "I came from the corporate world to LVBA 26 years ago. "
What is the best part of your job? - "I think my enjoyment is best expressed from early on when I was with the owner of Howard Homes, driving through some of his residential creations. I remarked how gratifying it must be to see what he created from nothing—I have never forgotten the smile on his face. I can sense that same smile on so many of our members and it has made working with and for them a true pleasure. "
What is a "fun fact" people may not know about you? - "I'm an upright bass blues playin', fine artist, journeyman longrifle builder, who finally escaped past corporate education positions."

Looking for Installation Ideas?

Virtual installations are giving everyone headaches this year. Several locals are conducting their swearing-in ceremonies online and then holding celebrations later in the year.

If you are looking for a good way to carry out your installation ceremony, EO Nicky Paterson of Wayne Pike BIA shared the process that their local used.

"We had our 2021 Vice President swear in the 2021 Board members. Then the 2021 President swore in the 2021 Executive Board, then the 2020 President swore-in the 2021 President," said Nicky. "Everyone who administered oaths was on the Board in 2020."

Thanks to Nicky for sharing the Wayne Pike process. We're interested in the ways you are all doing installations during this challenging period. Please feel free to share.
2021 Information Forms Are Due

Please be sure to complete and submit your local's 2021 informational request. This is essential for PBA to keep the contact and Board of Director's lists updated.

Information is due NO LATER THAN January 15.

For those filers who file on paper, the department will accept e-mailed reports that include the corresponding version of the Unsworn Statement Form. Send e-mailed documents to [email protected] OR you can drop off your reports to the Department of State’s Drop Box located in front of the Keystone Building at 400 North Street, Harrisburg, PA  17120.
