CERTS Act Update:  COVID-19 Stimulus Proposal
So, if you're wondering what is happening with the CERTS Act, we've got you covered. With 330 sponsors and cosponsors in Congress on the Bill, we have been waiting for a larger coronavirus relief bill to hitch CERTS to. As you recall, CERTS would provide $10B in relief for our industry (and school bus and passenger vessel).  There were several times we thought the Bill may go through, only to be met with political roadblocks during this election year, pushing it off to 2021.

Last week, the Problem Solvers Caucus, a bipartisan group in Congress of 50 members, with equal numbers of Democrats and Republicans, disclosed a bipartisan, bicameral four-month $908 billion COVID Emergency Relief Package.  The proposal included $45 billion for transportation that includes airlines, rail, public transit, passenger vessels, motorcoaches and private school buses. AWESOME! Specifically, $8 billion for those industries included in the CERTS Act.  Now, while focusing on inclusion and how the money may be allocated, the industry heard of an unconfirmed proposal to reallocate $3 billion of the $8 billion reserved for CERTS Act industries to public transit. Hence, why I sent yesterday's Member Alert.

We are continuing our extensive outreach on this, as we have for the better part of 8 months. Please reach out to your leadership in House and Senate to thank them for including you, and ASK them to keep the amount at the right amount: $8 billion! Thanks to everyone who is doing their part!
