FMCSA proposes to rescind the requirement that drivers of passenger-carrying commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) operating in interstate commerce, submit, and motor carriers retain, driver-vehicle inspection reports (DVIRs) when the driver has neither found nor been made aware of any vehicle defects or deficiencies (no-defect DVIRs). ELDs:  Impact on Hours-of-Service & Understanding Your Device

FMCSA is tracking the impact ELDs are having on industry compliance with hours-of-service regulations. As you can see in the graph, hours-of-service violations have fallen steadily with ELD rollout.   These critical regulations ensure that CMV drivers get the breaks they need, increasing the safety of everyone on the road.  Click here to download an  attachment with additional information.

There is a wide variety of ELDs on the market, which enables you to select the device that best meets your business needs. No matter which you choose, everyone on your staff needs to be knowledgeable about how to operate the device(s) to record, certify, and share hours-of-service data.

This checklist is designed to guide you in ensuring that you and your staff are well-versed in the various functions of the ELD(s) you have selected, purchased, and installed. For complete details on the motor carrier and driver roles, see 49 CFR 395 Subpart B.
