NPS:  Commercial Use Authorizations

CVSA to Conduct Brake Safety Week Sept. 15-22 
During this year's CVSA Brake Safety Week, inspectors throughout North America will be checking for critical brake violations and putting some trucks and buses out of service.   Commercial motor vehicles with brake violations will be restricted from traveling until the violations are corrected. Vehicles that pass the inspection will be eligible to receive a CVSA decal.
Partial Delay of Entry-Level Driver Training Rules
Federal trucking regulators have proposed a two-year delay for compliance with certain provisions in the Entry Level Driver Training rule to allow more time for development of the secure electronic transfer of information to the certified training provider registry and state driver licensing agencies.
Tightening Motorcoach Insurance Market
The insurance market for bus and motorcoach operators is under pressure from many sides. Many of the troublesome is sues, such as tragedies encountered around the world, are beyond the control of the industry itself, said Timothy H. Delaney, senior vice president of Lancer Insurance.

Crash Preventability Determination Program
The U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) proposed a permanent crash preventability determination program to gain additional data to recognize possible safety risks on our nation's roads. 
PennDOT Seeks Public Input on Highway Safety
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is seeking motorists' input on traffic safety and driving behaviors through its annual online
 
PennDOT will use the feedback from this annual survey to better understand the attitude and actions of the public concerning a variety of driving behaviors.

The survey is available on PennDOT's website through August 12 and should take about five minutes to complete. All responses, including the "comments" fields, are anonymous.

Major Delays on Westbound Bay Bridge This Fall 
This fall, the Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) will begin a $27 million deck rehabilitation on the westbound span of the William Preston Lane Jr. Memorial (Bay) Bridge (US 50/301). As part of the two-year project, the right lane of the westbound span will close 24/7 from October to April during fall 2019/spring 2020 and fall 2020/spring 2021.
