PBIT News Spring 2021

COVID-19 Updates and Policies

Starting May 28th we will be open to full passenger capacity on board the ferry!

Masks must still be worn while on board the ferry, regardless of vaccination status, as the ferry is a form of public transportation.

Passengers traveling in vehicles no longer need to remain in their vehicles while riding the ferry. While passengers are within personal vehicles they do not need to wear masks.

Although we will be open to full capacity we highly recommend making all reservations in advance, this is a very busy time of year on the ferry and spaces fill quickly. Please make your reservations online or by phone whenever possible to increase social distancing.

We continue to ask that anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 14 days, anyone experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, or has been exposed to COVID-19 to please call the Prudence Office to arrange travel within a vehicle, and to remain in the vehicle for the duration of ferry travel.

Runs have been added on the Saturday, Sunday and Monday of Memorial Day weekend.

The summer schedule will start a month early on June 1st.

See the schedule updates below.

Beverages on Board!

Starting May 28th, beverages including beer, pre-mixed cocktails, and soft drinks will be available for purchase Friday afternoon, Saturday, and Sunday! Sales will only occur while the ferry is underway. Beverages can be purchased with a credit card or with exact cash. Servers will not be carrying change. All open containers must be disposed of prior to getting off the ferry. Passengers will still be allowed to bring and consume their own drinks as well. Please help us keep the boat and bay clean by disposing of all trash and recycling in the proper receptacles.

Bristol Dock Upgrades

Prudence & Bay Islands Transport has been allocated funding distributed by the Federal Highway Administration to make repairs and upgrades to its terminals on publicly owned property. We are currently working with RIDOT & the Town of Bristol to plan for upgrades to the Bristol Ferry Terminal.

This project will include the construction of a waiting area for passengers, a storage shed, improvements to gates and fencing and repairs to pilings and fendering.

There will be no disruption to ferry service during this project. We hope to have this project completed in time for winter weather so passengers have a dry place to wait on the Bristol side.

Ferry Cruises!

We have limited Saturday Evening charter cruise openings left for the 2021 season! Celebrate something special or treat your friends to an evening on the water!

From Officer Tavernier:

Remember to register your low speed vehicles including golf carts, gators, etc. Stop by and speak to Officer Tavernier to get your registration paperwork and to setup your low speed vehicle inspection.

Please help us keep the PI parking lot available by not storing cars in the lot for extended periods of time. Officer Tavernier is happy to provide transport for anyone who needs to move their vehicle to an address to store it instead of keeping it in the lot.

From the Bristol Harbor Master:

Starting immediately, the ferry parking lot in Bristol can be used for free day parking only. There is no overnight parking permitted in this lot without a marina sticker.

Overnight parking is available in the lot across the street from the ferry and passes can be purchased at the Harbor Master's office in the armory building.

Please call 401-253-1700 for questions relating to parking in Bristol.
