Pass That Bill! (Massachusetts Edition)

This week, all eyes on Massachusetts, as the MA Senate’s Primary Care for You bill awaits a dance partner from the MA House by Friday. If the House does not pass a primary-care bill by Friday, the legislation will die until the next two-year legislative session. If the House does, a conference committee will have until the end of 2026 to whirl a final bill to the Governor’s desk.
An article in the New Bedford Light (picked up by the Washington Post) spells out why this legislation matters locally, drawing extensively on data from the PC4AA New Bedford Primary Care Report.
PC4AA Steering Committee member Dr. Katherine Gergen Barnett also urges the House to pass this legislation while remaining mindful of impacts on safety-net hospitals, drawing on her 21 years and counting as a family physician at Boston Medical Center. (PDF)
