Just released: Porsche Club of America Video with Jake Raby: Don't neglect wear pads! How to fix camshaft deviation (5-chain engines)

In this video, Jake Raby of Flat Six Innovations guides Vu as he replaces the camshaft timing chain wear pads in his 1999 Porsche 911 Carrera's engine and correctly sets the camshaft timing. While not meant to be a start-to-finish guide on how to replace the wear pads and set the timing, this video is an invaluable resource for the DIYer who is committed to attempting this job — or the average enthusiast who wants to know what's going on inside these engines.

Don't forget: Your replacement IMS Bearing is a wear-and-tear item with service interval!

All replacement IMS roller and ball bearings have (or should have) service intervals for replacement based on time and mileage. The only exception to this is the IMS Solution that is the only permanent solution to IMS bearing failures designed for the lifetime of the engine and does not require any further servicing.

LN Engineering's Single Row Pro, Classic Dual Row IMS Retrofit, and RND RS Roller IMS Retrofit bearings have a 6 year or 75,000 mile service interval (whichever comes first). Exceeding the service intervals for any replacement IMS bearing is not recommended.

Is my IMS Retrofit or RND RS Roller Bearing kit due for replacement ?

The IMS bearing in my car was installed by its previous owner. How will I know if my IMS Retrofit™ or RND RS Roller Bearing needs replacement?

If you don't know the exact date / mileage of your IMS bearing kit installation, you can search LN Engineering’s IMS product registration database by IMSR / IMSS Serial Number or your Vehicle’s Identification Number. If your installation was registered with us, you will receive detailed information about your bearing kit type, production and installation date, and recommended service interval.

The search engine will open in a new window.

Previous owner failed to register my kit / car in your database. How do I know when my kit was installed?

The majority of our kits get installed up to 6 months after the production date. Refer to the table below to approximate (+/- 6 months) the installation date of a kit that wasn’t registered with us.
