Hello Everybody,

Working with so many retired people has taught me many things over the last three years. I had a feeling this would happen, because I have often sought the advice of more experienced folks whenever possible. Unfortunately, I haven't always listened to that advice, but that has also improved with age. As some of you know, before coming to Perinton I served as the Recreation Director for the Town of Hamlin, and it was while I was there that I first learned about Perinton and its amazing recreation facility. I decided that this was where I wanted to end up and in particular, sought out the position of working with the senior population, since this was the group of individuals that I felt I had the most in common with. It turns out that we have more in common than I had anticipated, and you have influenced me so much with your daily Carpe Diem! attitudes... So, my husband and I have decided to do a little carpe dieming of our own and retire this year ourselves. We'll be moving to Europe (my beloved Greece) in August, and we'll learn to do the snowbird thing between Greece and Austria (Vienna is my hometown) just like the pros that many of you are! I have alerted Jeff, Nick, and Kelly about my plans early enough because I want to be able to help with this transition and be able to give the new person in this role as much information as possible. Continuum is the name of the game and I will keep you all up to date as the progress moves along.

I've been told that when I write about a particular entree in our upcoming menus that these tend to sell out too fast. Now I will draw your attention to those dishes that for some unknown reason we sell the least of every week: our pasta dishes! Have you noticed that Joe likes to situate pasta dishes on Wednesdays? I don't know if this is a Joe thing or an Italian thing, but you all need to know that his sauces, blends, casseroles, and aromatics are fresh and absolutely delicious. If you're concerned about the calories, split it into two meals! I walk into the kitchen sometimes and joke about diving into a huge vat of his pasta because the comfort level on these dishes is top notch. If you haven't yet, give them a try!

I have posted our trips to the Rochester Public Market this summer, which will begin in July and end in November. These excursions have become a regular feature in our summer programming since they are not only about shopping but enjoying the buzz of the market. Enjoy a coffee, look at some art, chat with your friends, and stock up on all kinds of deliciousness!

Our hike at the Bluebird Haven has been rescheduled for July 22nd. Due to the need to reschedule, not all participants were able to make it on the new date, so we have 7 spots open if anyone is interested.

Colleen Beckwith is back with her wonderful series of cosmetics classes this summer! Please see below for details.

Rosemary Irwin will be back on the last Friday of the month with a presentation on memory. As always she will present in a manner that will be both informative AND memorable!

We have a project in our weight room coming up that involves upgrading to all new equipment, as well as new flooring, painting, and upgraded lighting. The project is going to take place between 6/16 - 6/29 and we will reopen on 6/30. Signs have been posted, and all pass holders will have received email communication to inform them about the project. To make up for the time that pass holders are not be able to access the weight room, we are offering a 2-week extension, by request, to any 1-month, 6-month, or 12-month pass holder. So be sure to do that if you use the weight room and utilize one of these passes.

I have put out a new fitness schedule reflecting the changes due summer programming, so be sure to pick one up at the office if you keep one on the fridge. 🙂

Lately we have noticed that folks have been removing flyers from our hallway bulletin board. If you happen to see anyone doing this, could you kindly let them know that folks without computer access are reliant on these? Your assistance will be appreciated!

Finally, the Canasta players are looking for some additional players, so if you feel that Canasta urge and don't know where to turn, call us and leave your contact info!

Have a great rest of the week and if you've got any great retirement tips you want to pass along, please let me know!

Love,

Anke
