Hello Everybody,

Today in history, Cleopatra was reinstated as Queen of Egypt. Lots of pomp and fanfare! The legendary Cleopatra VII, aided by her Roman lover Julius Caesar, was reinstated as co-ruler of Egypt (with her brother Ptolemy XIV) this day in 47 BCE following a civil war with her brother Ptolemy XIII. Mark Anthony came onto the scene a bit later and created all kinds of drama.
Now that you know these facts, I bet you can all sleep better tonight.

Today, in our current timeline, marks the day that Chef Christina has decided upon the date that she will switch from soups to salads! As of 4/23/24, salads will once again grace the Curbside Lunch menus as we move from coolish to warmish weather. Until then, enjoy the delicious soups she prepares because you won't see them again until next fall.

Other upcoming events include the start of Part 4 of Lesley Shakespeare's ART STARTS WITH DESIRE class on 4/9. There will be a break in classes between 4/30 and 5/28 because Lesley will be traveling throughout the month of May.

In April, Dan Jones' TECH SEMINARS will cover TV TODAY, as TV 'stations' are very different now than they were many years ago. TV can be watched on multiple devices and from numerous platforms, so if you are a fan of films or a particular type of series, then this is one class you won't want to miss.

There will be an informational seminar from MVP insurance on Friday 4/12. For folks who register for this seminar though the MVP website, or by giving us a call to register you, they will later receive a $10 gift certificate in the mail in gratitude of your participation.
Thank you, MVP!

I have updated the fitness class schedule to reflect the very small change in some of Denise's Monday classes. The BOOTY BARRE class has been officially extended to be a 45 minute class, and because we need to have a 15 minute break in between classes, the following class (CARDIO KICKBOXING), will not begin until 12:00 noon.
Those are the only changes in the schedule.
Please keep in mind that with school break camps going on next week, there will be no fitness classes in room 208B.

Please try not to register more than once for any one fitness class, but especially those occurring between 9:00 - 11:00 AM. If you have trouble, give us a call to make sure your name appears only once on the list. We have people on stand-by on most days, who wait for a spot to open, so please try to be conscientious with your reservations. It would also be a great help if you could tell us in advance if you won't be able to make it to a class you have reserved a seat for; that way we can get these stand-by folks into a class faster.

The dates for the April blood pressure clinics in the lobby of the PCC have also been posted; as always, on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month.

The Fairport Historical Museum will be collecting eclipse experiences from local residents. If you have anything you would like to share with posterity, please submit your experience to the museum. More information below.

Speaking of the upcoming eclipse, I have been asked why I have not created a specific "55+" eclipse program on the day of the eclipse. It had been my intention to do so when we first started planning the event, but the more I learned about past eclipse experiences, the more I realized that this day at the PCC will deal with a LOT of unknown factors: will there be enough parking? How early would folks need to arrive to secure a spot? How late will they need to stay in order to not get stuck in gridlocked traffic jams as many people will want to leave (at the same time) once the celestial show is over? How would viewing the eclipse in these crowded circumstances be in any way better than viewing it from one's own neighborhood or home? ESPECIALLY if the weather is less than congenial?
Once we started seeing the numbers of families who were registering for the Eclipse Fun Pass program (a few hours with the space themed bounce houses in the gym, and another chunk of time in the indoor splash park), we realized that we would need nearly all of the parking spaces around the PCC for staff, vendors, sponsors, and all those families who purchased a Fun Pass. It would leave no spaces for the folks that just want to come here to view the event outside. They will have to park down at the Center Park parking lot and walk up to the PCC. Security has been engaged that will allow only the aforementioned groups to park in the immediate lots around the PCC (while supply lasts). The Fairport School District does not want to provide a shuttle service for remote parking because it also does not know what to expect as far as traffic is concerned and whether any kind of shutteling will actually be possible.

For these reasons I have been telling folks that their best course of action is to first find out where in the sky the sun will be located at 3:00 PM, and if they can see it clearly from their own homes; stay there! Invite some friends over for the day and have a viewing party! Or, if a bunch of trees are blocking your view, try to find the closest location to your own home (or a friend's home), preferably some place you can walk to and from and hang around inside in to stay warm.

Here also is the link to NASA's eclipse website, so that you can view the eclipse even if it turns out that we have thick cloud cover on 4/8. CLICK HERE!

And that's it for this week. Happy Easter this Sunday to everyone celebrating!

Have a wonderful rest of the week!
