Ask your Legislator to Apply for the Complete Streets Champion's Institute!
The first ever Complete Streets Champion's Institute for State Legislators! Do you want to see your legislator trained on the value of complete streets and applying for more federal funding? The Institute does all of that. We've surveyed towns, and not nearly enough are applying for the Billions in new Infrastructure Bill funding. Deadline to apply is December 22!
The Champion's Institute for state legislators runs throughout the legislative session (January - May), and SC communities will benefit when legislators understand the high value of Complete Streets and help their regions apply for additional federal funding.

Bike Walk Greenville helps statewide, grassroots effort to enable automated enforcement
Ryan Soukup is one of many leading an effort to repeal the red light camera ban. He is the husband of late Carli Brewer Soukup, killed while biking the Swamp Rabbit trail crossing Sulfur Spring Drive. Ryan said "It actually took that incident for me to realize that in the state of South Carolina, there's legislation in place that makes it illegal for traffic cameras to be used to ticket individuals who run them." PCC is in support of this organic, statewide grassroots effort to repeal the ban on automated red light and speed enforcement. We provide some policy & technical support, for legislation that has the potential to reduce burdens to police and increase equitable enforcement.

The Rise of Atlanta, in the Beltline Project
The Atlanta Beltline, from the brains of a Georgia Tech student, has already spurred an 11 to 1 return on investment. The project will not even complete until 2030. The growth happened so quickly from this urban loop, multi-use trail plan, that protection from gentrification didn't occur quickly enough. Hear from local leaders describing how to get it right, from the start.

The Exceptionally American Problem of Rising Roadway Deaths
This article explains the exceptionally American problem of bad traffic safety. Consider that if the USA has one of the worst rates in the world, and that South Carolina has the #1 highest rate in the USA, PCC has a tough job ahead. But we keep at it. As we embark on a Hands Free bill in 2023, make sure you're signed up to help us through our Action Alerts here! We are lobbying for better laws and advocating to fund better streets and roads.
