PCC Awards Five Byck Scholarships for 2024-2025

Please join us in congratulating these deserving recipients of the Judy Byck Scholarship!

Tanashati Nyanda Akambi, LCSW-A, is a MSSW graduate of Columbia University offering embodied and dynamic healing partnership to adult individuals and intimate partners through Anyanwu’s Garden, PLLC. She specializes in trauma, consensual non-monogamous relationships, sexuality, and LGBTQIA+ experiences. Anyanwu's Garden is named after Octavia Butler's 'Wild Seed', a novel that, for her, intersects with art and healing.

Heather Branham, LCSW, is a private practice therapist specializing in trauma and attachment wounding. In her clinical work, she acknowledges the impact of systemic oppression, marginalization and neurodivergence on clients’ mental health and on the therapeutic relationship. Heather has extensive experience working with survivors of sexual violence and members of the LGBTQ+ community and provides training and clinical supervision around these areas of specialization.

Erin Katz, MSW, (she/her), is a recent graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill. Through practicums at UNC’s Department of Psychiatry and the Autism Support & Advocacy Center, she developed interests in psychodynamic theory and neurodiversity-affirming care for adolescents and adults. Erin is currently working at Markovits Counseling in Durham as a LCSW-A. Outside of her work, Erin enjoys playing pickleball and cooking.

Jennifer Hardison Walters, MSW, LCSW-A, obtained her BSW from Appalachian State University (1997) and MSW at UNC-Chapel Hill (2000). Her enthusiasm for policy and systems change led her to spend over 20 years conducting research studies to improve supportive services for survivors of human trafficking, child maltreatment, and intimate partner violence, and services offered by specialized courts and reentry programs. In 2021, she took a career detour and is excited to be on a new path of continuous learning as a psychotherapist at Markovits Counseling in Durham.

Asaf Zemah, MSW, graduated from Appalachian State University in 2021 after moving to NC from Israel in 2019. Since receiving his MSW, he has worked as a family therapist for Carolina Outreach in Durham. He is currently working on starting his private practice and is excited to take his first formal steps in the world of psychoanalysis.
