SCDOT policy campaign UPDATE
Our state complete streets policy campaign at SCDOT entered a new phase. We are now inside SCDOT intensely discussing walk/bike safety, specifically statewide priorities. We are working through all the ways they should improve coordination, design, process, and planning. READ THE UPDATE HERE. Then see the initiative in detail in this State paper article. More good news is this campaign now has 20 mayors supporting .
LCI class available!
September 27 to 29th will be Hilton Head Island's first ever League Cycling Instructor (LCI) training seminar!

It's a great class, especially for someone looking to get certified teaching an existing bike safety program, train others, or apply for a grant to run a program (new or existing) - with a national certification.  It is indeed 24 hours, so high level - but also high quality! The course includes basic pedagogy, how to teach to different age groups, in different settings, different learning styles, with different props, etc. And the course instructor is excellent.

Details & registration here . Registration closes Sept 6 (by August 30th to avoid late fee.)

Good Read:
Swamp Rabbi Trail is Growing!
"...Laurens County [has] a plan ... to build a section of trail starting at Prisma Health's Laurens County Medical Campus. The goal is to take the trail in two directions from the hospital ... and connect the cities of Laurens and Clinton. Eventually, the plan would be to connect to Fountain Inn's already-built section and the rest of the trail once it reaches the Golden Strip in Greenville County.... It's a project that could hold major potential as an economic stimulant for Laurens County, where faded brick facades and empty storefronts dot sleepy downtowns with the bones to be more."

“The key with the Swamp Rabbit Trail is connecting points of interest and giving people a destination to reach with each next section, Houck said. The idea is to create a " highway system," more so than a traditional trail, which people can use as way to get somewhere and will give each stop on the trail the opportunity to see economic investment, he said.”
