PASTOR
APPRECIATION MONTH
by Rick DuBose
Assistant General Superintendent
Assemblies of God
I’ve always believed that appreciation is the highest form of currency that exists. When congregations show honor and appreciation, it is like putting gas in the spiritual tank of a pastor and his or her family.
Early in my ministry career, my wife, Rita, and I were pastoring a small church that paid $100 a week—when funds were available. But like most churches, sometimes funds weren’t available. One such time, we found ourselves without money or food and a hungry young child. I remember crying out to God before that Wednesday night service, wondering how I was going to provide for my family. I didn’t have the answer, but I sure hoped that God did.

ANNUAL FORUM OF
CHRISTIAN CHURCHES TOGETHER
by David Cole, PCCNA Unity
Commission Chairperson
PCCNA representation was evident at the recent annual forum of Christian Churches Together in the USA, this past October 2-4 in Savannah, GA. The forum’s theme was “Waters that Unite, Waters that Divide.” Among the topics for joint reflection was how our practices of baptism either bring the Body of Christ closer together, or cause further divisions among us. A highlight of the week (and a moving learning experience) was the group excursion to the Historic Baptismal Trail in Riceboro, GA. PCCNA and CCT have been cultivating stronger fraternal relations in recent years, and this year Dr. David Cole, PCCNA’s Liaison to the Greater Christian Community, was approved to serve as an official observer at the annual CCT forum on behalf of PCCNA. CCT’s executive director, Dr. Monica Schaap Pierce, has been one of several guests from CCT at PCCNA’s annual meetings in recent years. Also participating at the forum were Dr. Harold Hunter, representing the International Pentecostal Holiness Church, and Dr. Funmi Adeyemi, representing Hope for You. IPHC and Hope for You are each full members of both PCCNA and CCT.
