Association Updates

East Central District meets
The East Central District met Jan. 17 to hear and discuss updates from PCSAO including the regional foster care forums, legislation, rules, and Family First. ODJFS provided information on CPOE changes that will be taking place this year. The district next meets on April 17.

Anti-human trafficking update
PCSAO and grant partners provided a full-day human trafficking training to over 40 staff members and community partners of Hocking Valley Community Residential Center on Jan. 22. If your agency is seeking human trafficking training, contact PCSAO'S Anti-Human Trafficking Coordinator, Bhumika Patel

The Family and Youth Services Bureau, in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Division of Violence Prevention, is hosting a virtual panel discussion, “Connecting the Dots: Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and the Intersection With Human Trafficking.” This webinar will take place on Jan. 30 from 2-3:30 p.m.; learn more and register here .

The 11th Annual Ohio Human Trafficking Awareness Day, sponsored by Sen. Teresa Fedor, Sen. Stephanie Kunze, and Rep. Tavia Galonski, will take place Feb. 27 from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Ohio Statehouse. Learn more and register here .

The National Crime Justice Training Center is hosting a free 3.5-day team-based training in Columbus for existing Multi-Disciplinary Teams to improve their response to child sex trafficking. This training will take place May 4-7; learn more and register by March 9

Filed with JCARR: The following set of rules from Chapter 5101:2-9 (Children's Residential Centers, Group Homes, and Residential Parenting Facilities) was final-filed on Jan. 17 and will be effective Feb. 1:

Register: Annual Eastern Ohio Leadership Conference
Attention PCSA and JFS directors, managers, and supervisors: The 26th Annual Eastern Ohio Leadership Conference, “2020 Vision,” is approaching. The East Central and Southeast Ohio Regional Training Centers, together with the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, will be presenting the conference March 25-27 at the Carlisle Inn in Sugarcreek. This conference will focus on the current issues and challenges that face today’s leaders.  Download the brochure . Refer to page 8 for information about the room block, which will be held until Feb. 25. Registration is free but required, and closes March 17. Contact Darla Zajack by email or phone at 740-432-2355 x252 with questions.

A federal court ruled three years ago that relatives who take in children removed from their parents' homes are entitled to foster-care payments. But advocates say Ohio, one of four states in the court's jurisdiction, has yet to comply.
