Spring is Here Prompting New Beginnings

The advent of warmer days and more importantly the availability of vaccinations has allowed us to move about more freely and to think about getting together in new ways.

What in-person activities can we reintroduce safely? What activities do we want to retain or expand as online offerings? If we had the best of both worlds, what would a hybrid PD Active look like? You can help shape PD Active's new beginnings by responding to our survey coming to you in May.

Classes & Programs

March Speaker Forum

The March 13 Speaker Forum Holistic Treatments for Parkinson's Disease: Wellness, Integrative Medicine, Social Isolation presented by Dr. Indu Subramanian was both informative and engaging. If you missed the presentation, you can listen to the recording, click here.

PD Active Weekly Activity Programs

We are delighted to offer a range of weekly classes Tuesday through Friday held live on Zoom. Attend a class (or two!) for exercise and an opportunity to see and visit with the instructors and other attendees. Click here to see class times and registration links.

In-Person Activities Begin

New - PD Pickleball

When: 2^nd Thursday of the month 2pm-3pm

Where: Bushrod Park, 560 59th Street, Oakland – at tennis courts

Masks are required. A waiver must be signed to play.

Rock Steady Boxing (RSB) Returns to the Gym Friday, April 2

When: Wednesdays and Fridays 1pm-2:30pm

Where: SBG NorCal Gym at 1450 San Pablo Ave, Berkeley

In addition to weekly Zoom classes, Coach Daniel Burkhardt is now teaching in-person classes two days a week beginning on April 2. Zoom classes will continue on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 10am- 11:30am and Saturday.

For those who have never attended an in-person Rock Steady Boxing class with Daniel, an assessment is required before attending the first class at the gym.

For the safety of all class participants, please attend in-person only if you have been fully vaccinated.

Balance Class taught by Petra Fibrichova for the physical therapy office Fyzical Grand Lake.

Ann Van Steenberg 1946-2021

Ann, an early board member of PD Active was a loyal supporter, a faithful attendee at PD Active events and a regular participant in Vickie Bell’s and Suzanne Drolet’s yoga classes. PD Active provided Ann with much support and friendship which she cited in annual letters to friends and family. Over the years, many friends responded with gifts in her honor and now gifts in her memory.

Fred Setterberg, Ann's devoted husband, advised us of her passing on January 29, 2021. Fred wrote that she spoke of Parkinson's "as a kind of gift that slowed her busy life and further opened her heart."

May her memory be a blessing to all those who knew her.
