December 2019 Newsletter and Calendar
You still have time to support PD Active in 2019
Our many programs and activities depend on you and your support. Donations make it possible to conduct support groups, hold educational forums and offer a wide-range of exercise classes that are PD focused.

We hear it all the time -- the only things known to slow progression of PD is movement, exercise and avoiding isolation.

The most effective way to make this happen is with your donations to PD Active.

Now is the time.

In The News
Kaiser Outreach
We heard you when you said at the Town Hall and in the survey that you wanted PD Active to be more productively involved with the medical community and we’re on it. At the invitation of Dr. Suketu Khadhar, Medical Director of the Kaiser Permanente Northern California Comprehensive Movement Disorders Group, several PD Active board members met with this medical team at their November regional meeting.

We had a chance to showcase PD Active as a complement to medical treatments and to begin discussions about ways in which Kaiser and PD Active might work together. As a first step we would like for all newly-diagnosed patients to learn about PD Active from their healthcare provider. Stay tuned as we develop procedures for this outcome.
Mild/Moderate Care Partner Support Group at 1 Year
Do you know a care partner who is trying to educate themselves or wants to compare notes with others? PD Active's Mild/Moderate Care Partner Support Group celebrated the completion of its first year as the newest of PD Active's support groups.

The original PD Active support group for care partners is convened by Joyce Sakai and has been ongoing for many years. In the fall of 2018, members who had partners with milder symptoms expressed an interest to form a new group.

We welcome any care partner who wishes to attend. Please send an email prior to attending for the first time. Between meetings, members communicate through a private online forum (a Google Group) where we share information and notifications, and are able to ask questions. For example, we just posted an announcement about Stanford's monthly email list of webinars for PD care partners.

The next meeting is December 12th.
Day and Time: Second Thursdays from 3 - 5 p.m.
2117 Acton Street, Berkeley, CA

November Forum Report
Dr. Chad Christine, UCSF Professor of Neurology, spoke about PD-related clinical trials to a packed hall on November 9, 2019. As always, his talk was very informative. There were many good questions and we are grateful for the high level of audience engagement and Dr. Christine's replies, candor and expertise.

Dr. Christine was kind enough to provide the slides from his presentation which are available to download here.

Don't Forget to Carry Emergency Contact Info
Here is a handy guide for preparing emergency medical information. We urge all community members to prepare this information and keep it accessible and on your person at all times. Above all keep the name and number of the person to contact with your health care card.

If you have an iPhone you should fill out the   Health app that comes with the phone. This app can be used in emergency even if the phone is locked.

If you have an Android phone, here are   instructions for adding emergency info to your lock screen.
