Letter from our Board President
As we welcome the new decade, PD Active is positioned for growth and thankfully so, because our community is expanding. Not a week goes by in which we do not add new members who bring new energy and ideas to our community.

We are largely supported by volunteers. If you would like to contribute your time and talent to PD Active, let us know by mailing info@pdactive.org. You can be an essential part of what we accomplish together. I find it very rewarding and hope you will too. Best wishes for the New Year!

UCSF Micro-PD Study
Dr. Ethan Brown of UCSF is still actively recruiting for an investigator initiated Gut Microbiome trial for people with Parkinson’s disease who experience motor fluctuation greater than 2.5 hours.

This is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial examining the effect of an antibiotic on the clinical symptoms and medication efficacy in patients with mild to moderate Parkinson's disease experiencing medication fluctuations with levodopa. In other words, patients who are currently taking levodopa but still have prolong periods of off time greater than 2.5 hours in a day total. Approximately 86 patients will be randomized in a 1:1 manner between the antibiotic and placebo. The primary outcome will be change in motor fluctuations, and secondary outcomes include the population and metabolic signatures of the microbiome, non-motor scales, and serum inflammatory markers.

Don't Forget to Carry Emergency Contact Info
Here is a handy guide for preparing emergency medical information. We urge all community members to prepare this information and keep it accessible and on your person at all times. Above all keep the name and number of the person to contact with your health care card.

If you have an iPhone you should fill out the   Health app that comes with the phone. This app can be used in emergency even if the phone is locked.

If you have an Android phone, here are   instructions for adding emergency info to your lock screen.
