Upcoming Forum - Next Generation Deep Brain Stimulation
Our next Forum speaker, Coralie de Hemptinne, will be presenting on the clinical trials being conducted by the Starr Lab at UCSF.
Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is a common treatment for movement disorders that consists in delivering continuous electrical stimulation in deep brain structures. The goal of UCSF's trials is to improve DBS therapy by developing smart DBS paradigms able to automatically adjust stimulation parameters based on the patient’s symptoms.

Report: 2018 PD Active Town Hall
This year’s Town Hall took place on Saturday, June 9th and there were 65 participants. After a report from Board President Mary Pat Boersma and brief remarks by Executive Director Areca Smit and Board Member Judith Lubman, all the attendees, seven tables in total, engaged in discussions on topics ranging from improving outreach to serving those with Parkinson’s Disease (PD) who are still working.
The event brought to the surface so many ideas and we are grateful for all of the participation and thoughtful input. Areca has written a
report detailing what she took away from the event.

Whether you attended this year’s Town Hall or not, please know that all ideas and feedback are always welcome. If you have something you’d like to share, contact Areca at

UCSF's 2018 Caregiver Program - 2nd Presentation
As part of the UCSF Parkinson's Disease Clinic and Research Center (PDCRC) grant from the Parkinson's Foundation, Aaron Daley, the coordinator of the program made a second presentation in the series to a special session of PD Active's Care Partners Support Group.
The title of the presentation was "Dealing with an Uncertain Future: Predicting and Preparing for Parkinson's Disease". He started by saying what we all have heard many times -- no one can predict the progression. Mr. Daley's slides are not yet available but if you wish to receive the e-slides if they become available, e-mail
info@pdactive.org.
There will be several other presentations in the months ahead. E-mail Joyce Sakai at
