Smooth Transition

As we wish Tuyet Cong-Ton-Nu, PD Active’s first employee, a happy retirement, we welcome Jen Roitman as the new Operations and Development Coordinator. Tuyet has capably handled operations “behind the scenes” for more than 5 years and graciously agreed to stay until we found just the right person to take over. We are grateful to Tuyet for her help in making this a smooth transition. Jen comes to PD Active with considerable experience in the non-profit world and interests that are aligned with our mission. Farewell Tuyet and Welcome Jen.

July Speaker Forum Palliative Care and Parkinson's: A Total Health Approach   Date: Saturday, July 10 Time: 10:30am – 12:30pm PT on Zoom Speaker: Dr. Maya Katz Dr. Maya Katz is a movement disorders neurologist at Stanford Health Center. She is also a Clinical Associate Professor of Neurology at Stanford University School of Medicine. Dr. Katz obtained her medical degree at Cornell University. She completed her residency in Neurology at Mount Sinai Medical Center where she served as chief resident. She then completed her Movement Disorders Fellowship at UCSF. Dr. Katz specializes in deep brain stimulation and other advanced treatment approaches. Her main clinical and research focus is optimizing the delivery and accessibility of palliative care for people with Parkinson’s disease and related disorders. Dr. Katz is dedicated to taking a comprehensive approach to well-being and to optimizing quality of life for patients and their families."

Classes & Programs

Brain Training Class on Zoom One of the classes most requested in the recent PD Active Survey, Brain Training, is now being offered Thursdays 10:00am PT on Zoom. Dance for PD® at Berkeley Ballet Theater In-Person Classes to Begin in August! We are delighted to announce that Dance for PD® at Berkeley Ballet Theater will be held in-person beginning Monday, August 16. As in the past, classes are free and will have two instructors and a live musician. For details and more information, please contact instructor Susan Weber (see below) When: Mondays Noon – 1:15pm Where: 1370 Tenth St, Berkeley   Anyone new to the program will need to register by phoning instructor Susan Weber at (925) 457-8170 before attending the first class.

Community Update

Another Successful Fundraiser Congratulations to PD Active Board member Adam Mizock who along with his son, daughter and family friend participated in the Parkinson’s Foundation’s Revolution ride on June 12. Adam’s team was the second highest fundraiser for the San Francisco Bay Area, raising nearly $3,000!

Cycle With us  Interested in joining a coached live cycling class on Zoom? Kathy Helmuth, an instructor who focuses on classes for people with PD, leads a small group on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8:30am PT. If you have a stationary bicycle at home and are interested in joining, email Adam, amizock@gmail.com.
