June 2020 Newsletter and Calendar
Message from the Board
As we enter the third month of sheltering in place, we are finding new ways to stay engaged and support each other. PD Active is adjusting and adapting. We are resilient!

To provide the classes, support groups, activities and engagement you value, PD Active has put together a survey (please see below) which we encourage you to fill out.

Thank you for your on-going support and we look forward to seeing you online at one of our many classes, support groups and events.
Annual Survey:
We want to hear from you!
Our second annual online survey was sent out on May 26. We will look to the survey responses, in lieu of a Town Hall, to help guide the services and activities PD Active will provide going forward. Now more than ever we want to hear from you. We appreciate your ideas and the time you take to keep PD Active relevant and responsive to those affected by Parkinson’s.
July Forum with Dr. Diviya Kaul

Diviya Kaul, MD is a Movement Disorders Specialist currently working at Kaiser Permanente in Walnut Creek. Dr. Kaul completed medical schooling at St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada.
She then completed her internship in Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY and went on to complete her residency in neurology at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH. Discovering in residency she had a passion for treating patients with Parkinson’s disease and Atypical Parkinsonian syndromes, she developed a dance class for people with Parkinson’s (inspired by the Mark Morris Dance Group in New York).

After successfully completing her residency, Dr. Kaul was accepted, and completed her Movement Disorders Fellowship at Stanford Movement Disorders Center (under the direction of Dr. Helen Bronte-Stewart). Since then, she has been working with Comprehensive Movement Disorders Center at Kaiser Permanente.

PD Active Monthly Calendar

The calendar includes classes initiated with financial support from PD Active.

Programs and Classes
Instructors, facilitators and community members have stepped up to keep classes and support groups continuing in this new, virtual world. Participation and enthusiasm have been growing each week.

“The virtual classes have become vital opportunities for exercise and also for contact to our community. I have experimented with almost every PD Active class as well as weekend yoga and Pilates classes with Mark Morris Dance for PD® in Brooklyn. I remain appreciative for having these classes available at this time and for PD Active's efforts in making them possible”.
-Stanley L.

“The PD Active calendar has been a wonderful resource for me these past 9 weeks as we “shelter in place”. The classes keep me active and calm during this stressful time. It is especially nice to connect with my classmates and know that we are all supporting each other. I have boxed with Coach Daniel from Rock Steady Boxing, danced with Claudine at Danspace and learned Tai Chi with Otto, all on Zoom”.
-Keri L.
