Is Anything Known?

Time: 10:30pm - 12:30pm

The medicinal, mind-altering, material, and nutritional qualities of Cannabis have resulted in human relationships with this plant dating back thousands of years. Its complex and unique
chemistry has fostered the development of important discoveries in neuroscience. What, if anything, is known about the potential therapeutic effects of Cannabis in the treatment of Parkinson’s.
David E. Presti teaches neurobiology and psychology at the University of California, Berkeley, where he has been on the faculty in molecular and cell biology for nearly 30 years. For more than a decade he worked in the clinical treatment of addiction and of post-traumatic-stress disorder at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in San Francisco. And for the past 16 years, he has been teaching neuroscience and conversing about science with Tibetan Buddhist monastics in India, Bhutan, and Nepal. He has doctorates in
molecular biology and biophysics from Caltech, and in clinical psychology from the University of Oregon, and is author of
Foundational Concepts in Neuroscience: A Brain-Mind Odyssey (2016) and of

Welcome Todd Moorish to the PD Active Board
|
|
Todd Moorish comes to the PD Active Board of Directors as a recently diagnosed PwP and a capable contributor to the PD Active Events Committee including organizing the February Info Fair.
Todd started pursuing a career in hospitality consulting and operations, but then pivoted into hi-tech with the dot-com boom of the early 90s. He has focused on building and marketing B2B technology platforms enabling connect-ability. SaaS and BaaS are his playgrounds; APIs are his tools of choice.
He grew up in Hawai'i (Oahu and Maui) and Lafayette (CA) and now lives in Rockridge, Oakland. Other than spending time with his wife and two daughters (21 and 19), he loves staying active with tennis, mountain biking, skiing, pickleball and fly fishing. Todd says "exercise is medicine!".
Welcome aboard, Todd.

Adam Mizock, Board member of PD Active, leads the pack spinning for PD
|
|
Kudos to Adam
On February 8, Adam Mizok participated in the Parkinson's Foundation Revolution Ride. Not only did Adam cycle 20 miles in 90 minutes, he raised
$12,447 in support of community programs, educational resources and research,
and was the top fundraiser in the U.S.!
Adam writes, “The fight against PD is personal for me. I was diagnosed with PD in 2018 and it has been a roller coaster ride. The journey has led to many new friendships, for which I am very thankful.” And we are very thankful for Adam and all the work he does on the Board of PD Active and in the PD community.

Lee, a member of the PD Active community from its inception, attended all events and was devoted to his movement class with John Argue and his yoga practice with Vickie Bell. For over thirty years he approached his life affected by PD with humor and fierce determination in the same way he expressed his love for his sister Jane, her family and his partner, Amy. No one in our community worked as hard to support it. Every year Lee wrote over 25 letters to friends from elementary school-- and all the stops along the way-- asking them to contribute to PD Active because, as he liked to say, "PD Active was his second family".
He signed his 2019 letter quoting Bob Marley: "You Never Know How Strong You Are Until Being Strong Is Your Only Choice".
May his memory be a blessing.

Don't Forget to Carry Emergency Contact Info
|
|
Here is a handy guide for preparing emergency medical information. We urge all community members to prepare this information and keep it accessible and on your person at all times. Above all keep the name and number of the person to contact with your health care card.
If you have an iPhone you should fill out the
Health app that comes with the phone. This app can be used in emergency even if the phone is locked.
