2023 Brings Changes

PD Active has been fortunate over the years to have a talented, committed and hard-working Board of Directors. Our tagline “By and for people with Parkinson’s disease” communicates clearly what our organization does and we couldn’t do it without the commitment and the vision of our board members.

This month we want to recognize two board members who have recently stepped down, Adam Mizock and ARobin Orden. Adam joined the board in 2018 and Robin in early 2022. While they are no longer board members both stay committed to PD Active and you will undoubtedly see them at classes, support groups and events.

Please join us in thanking both Adam and ARobin for all they have contributed to PD Active!

Hallucinations and Dementia with PD—What to Know

Date: Saturday, March 11

Speakers: Dr. Angeliki Zarkali and Dr. Suzanne Reeves, PhD

Dr. Angeliki Zarkali and Dr. Suzanne Reeves, PhD will be joining us via Zoom from University College in London and will share their recent findings on hallucinations and dementia as pertaining to Parkinson’s disease. We will discuss the origins of these symptoms, treatment options, as well as other valuable resources.

Classes & Programs
New! DBS (Deep Brain Stimulation) Support Group Begins March 6, 2023

Are you considering getting DBS but have concerns and questions?  
Have you had DBS and would like to talk to others who are living with DBS?
If so, we welcome you to join the new support group 

Meeting: First Monday of every month 
Time: 5:00pm – 6:00pm PT

Weekly Classes with Petra Fibrichova

Petra Fibrichova teaches two classes weekly on Zoom: PD Fit Club on Tuesdays 11:00am, and Chair Yoga on Tuesdays at 12:30pm.

PD Fit Club uses a dynamic mix of movements that are recommended for PD including aerobic,balance, and PD specific strength training. Slower mindful movement and stretching are included. The class is designed to improve functional movement while having fun.

Chair Yoga - Move & Groove begins with a warm up and continues using big, rhythmic movements with some cognitive challenges mixed in. Class concludes with breathing exercises to improve lung capacity and relaxation.
Petra's classes are both fun and a terrific way to get a cardio-workout along with specific exercises that address Parkinson’s, and it’s all enhanced by Petra's positivity, energy and great music. People at all levels are able to participate and realize the benefits of the classes.
