ILLINOIS ONLINE ACADEMY | UPCOMING WORKSHOPS | ADMINISTRATOR ACADEMIES

As your partner in professional learning, the Kane County Regional Office of Education will keep you updated on the latest workshops, academies, and subscriptions available through our office.

In The Anxious Generation, social psychologist Jonathan Haidt explores the mental health decline of adolescents since the early 2010s. This book illustrates how play and independent exploration help children grow into thriving adults, the societal factors that have led to a decline in the "play-based childhood", and the impact of social media, among others.

The Kane County ROE is offering an online Administrator Academy to meet the needs of school leaders interested in developing professionally through the context of a book study. Over the course of four weeks, participants will learn about the research behind banning cellphones in schools as well as the benefits of increasing free time, in-person interactions, and independence among students.

New classroom strategies are at your disposal with our weekly series, Branching Out! Here are just a couple examples of these complimentary tips from our Professional Learning team.

Final Word

Katie Algrim walks through a discussion strategy that places students into groups to exchange ideas, take on specific roles in that group structure, and be able to refine and provide feedback.

Implementing this can help them articulate their thoughts and enhance their critical thinking and listening skills!

Setting Daily Intentions

Setting daily goals can help students be mindful of what they want to learn or accomplish, which can be useful for days where they may seem to be running on autopilot.

Elsa Glover shares a simple strategy to help students be intentional about what they want to focus on each day.

New installments of Branching Out are released every Thursday across our social media platforms and website. You can also browse our full catalog below. With over 100 episodes and counting, there's a video for every educator looking to branch out!
