City of Lights Driving Tour

Self-guided tour of holiday cheer in Petaluma neighborhoods and downtown!


Grab a thermos of cocoa and load the family up in the car for a magical self-guided tour of beautifully decorated homes & businesses throughout Petaluma.


The map is available to download below or pickup a copy at the Petaluma Visitors Center.

Light Up the Square - Tree Lighting Celebration

Join Santa & Mrs. Claus as they Light Up The Square with their giant sparkling Christmas Tree in the middle of Theatre Square!


The festivities start at 5:30pm with Santa’s Arrival, live music, laser show, and other performances. Bring your letter for Santa and drop it off at Santa's Mailbox. Don’t miss the tree lighting at 6:30pm!


This is a great photo opportunity and a festive starting point for the holidays in Downtown Petaluma.


BONUS SANTA VISIT * ~ Extend the holiday fun and come back the next day, Saturday, December 7 from 4pm-6pm for live music, Santa's Mailbox, and another visit from Santa Himself!

2024 Transit Toy Drive

Petaluma Transit is thrilled to join the 2024 Transit Toy Drive! Donate new unwrapped toys and nonperishable food items at the LumaGo vehicle at the Petaluma Downtown Station (220 Lakeville St) from 9am-2pm. Help spread holiday cheer! Later that day, ride LumaGo to the Lighted Boat Parade and beat the traffic.


Pro Tip: select River Plaza (Grocery Outlet) as your destination for holiday events and taking the foot bridge to all the action! For an easy holiday outing, choose Petaluma Transit’s fixed-route, paratransit, or LumaGo!

Festival of Trees

Kick off the holidays with this Petaluma tradition! Stroll through 40 beautiful holiday trees decorated by local artisans and businesses. Sip hot cocoa, listen to carolers and local entertainment, visit Santa, get a professional family portrait, and enjoy tasty sweets while bidding on the spectacular trees. All profits go to nonprofit charities (announced Friday night at 7:30 pm).

Downtown Holiday Market & Shopping Stroll

Petaluma will host a Holiday Market on Kentucky Street ~ showcasing local vendors including handmade candles, knitted items, baked goods, and more. Live entertainment, music, and Santa & Mrs. Claus will be stopping by!


Downtown stores will be welcoming patrons with holiday cheer, tasty goodies, and great festive deals for the Holiday Shopping Stroll!

LUMA Ice Skating Rink

The City is hosting Sonoma County's first ice skating rink at the Petaluma Fairgrounds, bringing a new holiday tradition to our town! The rink will showcase a vendor marketplace, bar / lounge area, private party tent rental, and holiday tree lot.

New Downtown Trash Cans to Feature Youth Created Art

The City of Petaluma will be installing new recycling & trash receptacles throughout downtown in an effort to “enhance the community’s commitment to cleanliness, sustainability, & community well-being.”


Each receptacle will feature artwork created by local students as part of the Sustainable Streetscapes Project to provide a unique touch to our public spaces, and celebrating our youth’s creativity & environmental commitment.

Naga Dragon Art Installation

The Petaluma Fairgrounds is hosting Naga, the majestic 100' sea serpent art installation, through January. Naga was created by Cjay Roughgarden, Stephanie Shipman, & Jackie Scott for Burning Man 2024.
