PETALUMA NEWS & SERVICES

City Regains Control of Fairgrounds: Property Now Open for Community Programming

For the last 80 years, the Petaluma Fairgrounds have been leased to the 4th District Agricultural Association (4th DAA) for $1 per year. The lease expired December 31, 2023, at which time the property transitioned back to local control.

Local management of the Fairgrounds means all the events Petalumans know and love will continue (including the annual fair and speedway races).

Residents will also enjoy greater access to the property in the form of parks and open spaces, facilities rentals for the community, bike and pedestrian paths, a farmers’ market, and more.

The City plans to engage with residents to explore new community programming, and are asking for the community's priorities for the property. The facilities and community spaces will be available to reserve for private activities and special events.

Petaluma River Park Foundation Has New Riverfront Property

The Petaluma River Park Foundation has purchased a 38-acre riverfront property adjacent to the parklands it already stewards.

Development of the property promises numerous benefits, including an expanded riverfront park and communal space; a safe, cross-town connection for pedestrians and bikers; and the possibility of affordable, transit-oriented housing.

Cinnabar Theater Moving to Petaluma Outlets

The award-winning Cinnabar Theater Company has announced it will move from the converted schoolhouse it has occupied since 1972 to the Petaluma Village Premium Outlets, with an anticipated opening of Fall 2025.

An 8,250sqft former retail space will be converted into a new modern and spacious 200-seat auditorium complex with a state-of-the-art lighting and sound system, increased parking capacity, and potential for growth.

Estimated renovations are $2.5 million.

Cinnabar will launch a major capital fundraising campaign at its annual Broadway Bash gala benefit in March.

The City of Petaluma partnered with Petaluma People Services Center to bring our community the SAFE (Specialized Assistance for Everyone) Program in July of 2021. The goal of the SAFE team is to address crisis response, prevention, and intervention for our most vulnerable community members experiencing mental health issues, substance abuse issues, and homelessness. This mobile crisis response team approach provides more efficient and successful outcomes for crisis response, intervention, and treatment for the long-term improvement of our community and individual quality of life.

The SAFE Team are civilian first responders who will respond to & proactively address calls for service that have traditionally (and unnecessarily) burdened law enforcement, emergency medical services, and health care providers.

If you need the SAFE Team’s services, you may reach them via:

  • Call 911 – An emergency dispatcher will answer and determine if your situation requires the SAFE team, first responders such as police, fire, paramedics, or a combination of both.

  • Call 707.781.1234 – You will reach a directory where you can speak with a 911 operator or a non-emergency staff member to help.

A message from the County of Sonoma:

Want to find out about wildfires, floods, power shutoffs, and other emergencies as quickly as possible? The best way is to register with the emergency alert notification systems used by the City of Petaluma (Nixle), the County of Sonoma, and PG&E.

Be sure to register yourself and anyone else in your family (kids, elderly parents, etc) who would benefit from emergency notifications.
