PETALUMA NEWS & SERVICES
Big congratulations to everyone who secured a Petaluma People's Choice awards! The list includes Best Businesses, Best Professionals & Specialists categories, Petaluma’s Food & Drink winners, and local culinary marvels.

As the awards are determined based on popular vote, it is always interesting to see what Petalumans are enjoying these days!
The future of the Petaluma Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds is on the docket as the lease for the City-owned land (leased for $1 per year to the State of California since the 1930's) is set to expire.

The fairgrounds are often referred to as the heart of the city. Yet currently on an average day, the grounds are sparsely used and not open to the public. Residents are eager for life to be breathed into the place, and for it to open up. Discussion is ongoing on how the space should be managed, including the possibility of bringing in a grassroots, locally controlled organization.
Petaluma's vision is to reach functional zero chronic homelessness 2026. This includes creating a crisis response system to ensure homelessness becomes a rare, brief, one-time experience.

The city has launched a new partnership with the nonprofit HomeFirst that will strengthen outreach to homeless people to find them shelter. HomeFirst will partner with the city’s existing service providers, including COTS, the DTS, and PPS.

The City of Petaluma partnered with Petaluma People Services Center to bring our community the SAFE (Specialized Assistance for Everyone) Program in July of 2021. The goal of the SAFE team is to address crisis response, prevention, and intervention for our most vulnerable community members experiencing mental health issues, substance abuse issues, and homelessness. This mobile crisis response team approach provides more efficient and successful outcomes for crisis response, intervention, and treatment for the long-term improvement of our community and individual quality of life.

The SAFE Team are civilian first responders who will respond to & proactively address calls for service that have traditionally (and unnecessarily) burdened law enforcement, emergency medical services, and health care providers.

If you need the SAFE Team’s services, you may reach them via:

  • Call 911 – An emergency dispatcher will answer and determine if your situation requires the SAFE team, first responders such as police, fire, paramedics, or a combination of both.

  • Call 707.781.1234 – You will reach a directory where you can speak with a 911 operator or a non-emergency staff member to help.

A message from the County of Sonoma:

Want to find out about wildfires, floods, power shutoffs, and other emergencies as quickly as possible? The best way is to register with the emergency alert notification systems used by the City of Petaluma (Nixle), the County of Sonoma, and PG&E.

Be sure to register yourself and anyone else in your family (kids, elderly parents, etc) who would benefit from emergency notifications.
