Petaluma River Dredging Begins
After extensive coordination with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Corps’ contractor, Dutra will begin dredging of the Petaluma River this week starting near San Pablo Bay and moving toward the Turning Basin. Dredging will take place 24x7 until the work is complete. This approach ensures the project is finished within the designated environmental work window deadline of November 30.
Dredging removes built-up sediment from the riverbed, improving water flow and navigation. This long-awaited work will deliver lasting benefits including safer navigation for boats, improved circulation, better flood protection, and long-term support for the health and resilience of our river and waterfront.

Petaluma Parking Plan Adopted
City Council has voted to adopt the Downtown Area Parking Management Plan.
In 2024, Petaluma was awarded a $100,000 grant from the Metropolitan Transportation Commission to undertake the Downtown Area Parking Management Plan. The City’s consultant, TYLin, produced a plan outlining several recommended strategies to optimize parking availability and curb usage based on their understanding of Petaluma’s conditions and their international expertise. The implementation of any strategies outlined in the Plan will be subject to further community and City Council involvement.
