Petaluma General Plan Update
How does the city of Petaluma aim to guide land use & development over the next two decades?
That question is addressed in the latest draft of the city’s land use policy framework – a section within the city’s General Plan Update, a state-mandated document intended to guide the city’s long-term development and other local matters.
This is one of 14 draft policy frameworks being developed as part of the broader General Plan Update that will consider arts and culture, economic development, natural environment, and other topics.
The city’s current General Plan was adopted in 2008; the next is scheduled to be adopted in 2025.
The land use draft plan is available for review online, and the public can provide feedback on it until Sept. 30.

Petaluma Reusable Cup Project
The Petaluma Reusable Cup Project is an initiative to see how Petaluma could move away from single-use cups and toward a reuse system that is better for the planet.
When people purchase beverages at participating locations they are invited to return their empty reusable cups at any participating location or at return bins located throughout Petaluma. Returned cups are professionally washed and sanitized before being put back to work for the duration of the project.
The Reusable Cup Project is an initiative funded by the NextGen Consortium and runs in partnership with the City of Petaluma and local businesses.

Fairgrounds Mural Project
The Petaluma Fairgrounds Mural Project by local artist Michael Garlington has been installed on the rear of the Grandstand bleachers at the Petaluma Speedway.
The piece is approximately 120' by 20' and features collaged portraits of community members associated with Petaluma’s agricultural community, rich fairgrounds history, racing events, local organizations, on-site education programs, and happenings.
The Petaluma Fairgrounds is at the heart of our community and this mural has been created to honor some of the very people that make it so valuable to us all.

PETALUMA PEOPLE SERVICES CENTER
S.A.F.E. PROGRAM
Specialized Assistance For Everyone
The City of Petaluma partnered with Petaluma People Services Center to bring our community the SAFE (Specialized Assistance for Everyone) Program in July of 2021. The goal of the SAFE team is to address crisis response, prevention, and intervention for our most vulnerable community members experiencing mental health issues, substance abuse issues, and homelessness. This mobile crisis response team approach provides more efficient and successful outcomes for crisis response, intervention, and treatment for the long-term improvement of our community and individual quality of life.
The SAFE Team are civilian first responders who will respond to & proactively address calls for service that have traditionally (and unnecessarily) burdened law enforcement, emergency medical services, and health care providers.
If you need the SAFE Team’s services, you may reach them via:
-
Call 911 – An emergency dispatcher will answer and determine if your situation requires the SAFE team, first responders such as police, fire, paramedics, or a combination of both.
-
Call 707.781.1234 – You will reach a directory where you can speak with a 911 operator or a non-emergency staff member to help.
