Session Description:
Innovation is critical for business growth. A recent survey by McKinsey & Company showed that 84% of executives agree innovation is critical for their growth strategy, while only 6% are satisfied with the outcome of their innovation performance. One main challenge is the lack of a flexible, yet structured, and enabling environment. This webcast will discuss simple approaches that Emerson put in place to build successful disruptive innovations: enabling culture, integrated framework and well-defined processes.

The Gies College of Business at the University of Illinois and the Product Development & Management Association are co-sponsoring the fourth PDMA Doctoral Consortium from Monday, August 5 to Wednesday, August 7, 2019 in Champaign, Illinois. The goal of the Consortium is to enhance the development of doctoral students who are conducting dissertation research in the domain of innovation and new product development.

All meals, housing, social activities, and local transportation will be provided free of charge. Students are only asked to cover their transportation costs to and from Champaign, which is conveniently located just two hours south of Chicago and easily accessible via plane, train, bus or car.

Students accepted to the Consortium will be honored as Doctoral Student Fellows and have a unique opportunity to network and share ideas with leading innovation scholars and corporate executives in a collaborative setting in the Heartland of America. Our two-and-a-half-day event will offer a variety of engaging and interesting activities, including Faculty Presentations, Student Lightning Talks, One-on-one Mentoring, Roundtable Research Discussions, Tours of the University of Illinois Research Park and an Introduction to 3D Printing in the Illinois MakerLab. In addition, Doctoral Student Fellows will have the opportunity to compete for research support as well as the opportunity to present at the Annual PDMA Research Forum.

Additional Learning Opportunity: Fellows interested in learning more about 3D Printing will have the opportunity to attend a special post-conference training event (from 1:00 to 5:30pm on Wednesday, August 7) at the Illinois MakerLab. From PDMA Headquarters
As we wrap up 2018, I want to extend a special thank-you to all of the volunteers who work alongside staff in providing leadership for the organization, positioning it for growth, completing tasks and having a bit of fun along the way. We have had a near "embarrassment of riches" this year in response to calls for volunteers for PDMA's committees. We are grateful for over 40 new volunteers this year alone who are now helping or about to assist PDMA in its important work. Volunteerism is a key indicator of a vibrant and vital organization. PDMA is both of these. Thank you to all who are contributing time and talent! We hope that through your experience you make new contacts, deepen collegial relationships with those you had already met, access new thinking and enjoy being a part of growing the organization and helping defining the profession. Thank you all very much!

Happy holidays and our best wishes to the entire PDMA community for a happy, healthy and successful 2019!

Best regards,
Eric Ewald, CAE
