PDMA's Competitive Edge Conference: Disruption by Design is an unparalleled event experience attracting passionate product professionals from across the U.S. and around the world. Product managers, product teams, and innovation executives-from organizations of all sizes-engage with industry thought leaders, academics, and practitioners from across the product spectrum to tackle real-world problems. The event is the number one global conference focused on end-to-end product development and innovation management.

This year we are bringing together the best and brightest from the fields of New Product Development, Innovation, and Design to present attendees with an unmatched knowledge-packed experience in beautiful Orlando, Florida, November 2-5, 2019 at the Hilton Bonnet Creek.

With Disney World® close by, we are excited to focus this year's theme on Design, one of the four Ds of New Product Development: Define, Design, Develop & Deploy. PDMA's Competitive Edge: Disruption by Design Conference will provide insights into how Design integrates and weaves through the full continuum of New Product Development in four powerful and engaging tracks covering Business-to-Business, Services, Software, and Consumer Products.

I NSPIRING VISIONARIES AND DISRUPTIVE INNOVATORS WANTED TO SPEAK

COMPETITIVE EDGE: Disruption by Design CONFERENCE TRACKS
We are looking for dynamic presentations, case studies, and provocative points of view for our four highly relevant conference tracks.  Read through the following, then apply to speak.

  1. Business-to-Business Design and Development: Is the Perfect B2B Solution a Fantasy Land?
  2. B2B product and service design and development often focuses on finding the perfect solution to address and balance multiple variables and requirements of buyers, users, financial gatekeepers, etc. How does Design Thinking apply in a Business-to-Business environment? In this track, we will look at trends and share case studies and best practices from innovative B2B companies that have made design an integral part of their product and services development and business processes.
  3. Services Design and Development: Multi-factor Experiential Services from Future World Is Now!
  4. Services are tangible and effective activities and experiences that add value and yet are not objects that can held in the palm of the hand. Service design and development has come of age and reached a level of maturity that done well, separates good from great. The multi-factor nature of the experiential world of services is driving innovative solutions in the market. Whether service is your main industry or an adjunct to other product offerings, get the latest tools and inspiration to design and develop highly-rated, user-friendly, competitive, and customer-relevant experiences and services with this track.
  5. Software and AI Design and Development: Tomorrow Land Is Today with Software-Enabled Products and Services.
  6. Developing tangible products is one thing, designing software is another. Put them together and you are in the world of software-enabled products and machine learning along with other exciting emerging fields. If you are involved in building or supporting software or AI solutions, this track is for you. Industrial Design and Design Thinking are not just for the tangible product market. In this track you will gain firsthand exposure to the leading trends and tactics from software and AI industry insiders and tools used by leaders in the field.
  7. Consumer Products Design and Development: A Better Mouse Trap for Main St. (Sorry, Mickey!)
  8. Millennial and Gen Z consumers are vastly different than the generations before them-representing challenges and opportunities for consumer products companies. Add to that the fluid retail landscape and it has never been more important to blow up old ways of thinking and design new products, experiences, and consumer connections. How do you know if you are keeping up? In this track you will hear from the experts: practitioners who are breaking boundaries and establishing new formulas for success, and industry insiders who are able to share valuable product landscape information. Whatever your product category, experience level, budget, or team size, you will leave inspired and with tangible tactics to implement into your program. Learn from the leading CPG innovators, marketers, and designers.

Session Description:
We understand that machines are simple, it's us "humans" that are complex. "We the humans" have assorted personality traits, behavior patterns and value structures. We ourselves change every decade or so and our mindsets evolve too. The society an d culture we live in has it's overarching influence in how we behave, think, speak, see, feel and act.

We cannot just build products and push technology because we can! The onus is on us, the design community to make sure we anticipate and answer the unspoken needs, un-articulated wants and the latent desires of end-users, and blend in those emotional attributes with the functional specifications.

Let's try to understand how we investigate and uncover ideal user experiences across the entire set of multi-users. How we carefully design, develop and build a portfolio of meaningful products and services per those intended use cases. How we squeeze that expected product interaction into our artifact to make it useful, usable, ergonomic and beautiful; to make sure it seamlessly jells in the end-user's existing and aspirational lifestyle.

Our studio, Sundberg-Ferar is the nation's 2nd longest standing independent industrial design studio, which was born right here in Detroit, in 1934. Our sole reason for existence as a design studio is: To make everyday products a bit better and a bit more beautiful. In this webinar we will share some of our vantage points and insights, accumulated from our experience of 85 years of product design, design research and innovation strategy.
