PDMA Webcast: The Importance of
Value Proposition
Featuring Speaker Gregory Coticchia,
Carnegie Mellon University
Thursday, July 26, 2018
11 AM EDT/ 10 AM CDT
It's not enough to have a good idea. In order to be successful, a product needs a value proposition to clearly answer the question "Why would someone be willing to purchase this product?" A value proposition is a clear statement that explains your product's relevancy, quantified value, and unique differentiation. Communicating this persuasively is difficult though.

In this session you will learn to create a value proposition that answer the questions:
  1. How does your product solve customers' problems?
  2. What specific benefits does your product deliver?
  3. How is your product different from competing ones and why should someone buy it?
A value proposition is a critical element of strategy, core to the business model, and the foundation from which your communication messages are created. The significance of the value proposition should not be underestimated and validating it with customers is a must-have. Getting feedback on your value proposition can help you avoid wasting time on ideas that won't work - and that's inVALUEable.

Innovate Carolina Conference Recap
The Carolinas Chapter of PDMA held their Innovate Carolina 2018 9th annual conference in Raleigh, North Carolina Friday April 13, 2018. There were 115 in attendance making this a vibrant and energy-packed day! The theme of this ever-popular event was "Ignite Your Innovation Vision: Practices Large and Small Companies Can Teach Each Other." The session topics this year encouraged both large and small organizations to come together to share their experiences. Again this year the event included a student competition. Student teams from North Carolina State University, UNC Charlotte and Claflin University all submitted ideas. The entries covered medical devices that can solve for patient needs, ensure sanitary supply availability, understand student social-emotional health and delivering custom beauty products to users. Learn more about the action packed day and star-studded speaker line-up by reading the full article HERE.

From PDMA Headquarters
In May, we were honored by a visitor to the PDMA offices. The 4th President of PDMA, Tom Hustad, was in town visiting family. Tom was the founder of JPIM and operated PDMA's operations from his faculty office at Indiana University for fifteen years overseeing tremendous growth.  As a student, teacher, and practitioner of nonprofit management, I have deep appreciation for PDMA history. It sheds light on how the organizational culture developed and is a wonderful testament to the power of the association. Most well-established and active associations have modest beginnings born of the shared idea of a few who build something beneficial for a broader community. We greatly appreciated the visit. Thank you Tom!
More news from PDMA HQ:  We are very excited to be kicking off our 2018 PDMA webinar  series with Gregory Coticchia, MBA, PC of Carnegie Mellon University. Greg is an award-winning technology executive with over thirty years' experience in high tech products and services. He currently serves Carnegie Mellon University as its founding Executive Director for its Master's Program in Product Management (MSPM). He will be speaking about value proposition as a critical element of strategy and core to the business model.

Members can also view dozens of recorded webinars free of charge as a member benefit on the PDMA website here . Greg's presentation and those that follow will be recorded and added to the webinar library for member-only use.  Thanks and as always, let us know how we can support you as you progress in your product career.
