All-Access Pass Holders: Eye-Opening New  Pre-conference Sessions Have Been Added!
JPIM Research Forum and PDMA Conference Bridge Session: Academia and Industry Together Again!
Sunday, November 4 | 1:00pm - 2:00 pm
Opinions vary when you ask academics and professionals alike how well these two groups work together. Collaborations can be mutually beneficial, if approached correctly, but understanding one another¹s needs and aspirations is critical to success. PDMA wants to build on its 40-year history of successfully bringing groups together for projects big and small. This year¹s professionally facilitated bridge session will organize academics and practitioners into small groups to answer the most vexing questions to creating successful collaborations. Using a skillful mixture of design-thinking and project-management tools, our facilitators will create connections between participants and bring about responses that build consensus. If you enjoy the bridge session, stick around for the practical to take a deeper dive on what works and what doesn't.
Conference Pre-Conference Workshop: Building Better Products - A Design Thinking and Project Management Mashup
Sunday, November 4 | 2:15pm - 5:15pm
In this powerful hands-on workshop you will learn new methods that will make you a better product developer and manager.  You will learn tools and skills that combine the power of design thinking and project management.  Design thinking - to understand your customers, create resonant value propositions, and build new business models; Project management - to foresee risks and get your team moving immediately to action. Using tools such as the empathy maps and value proposition designer, we will get inside the head of our audience (you!) to understand the pains, gains, and jobs to be done for a unique case study. You will play the role of both student (learning to apply design and project management tools), and consumer as we explore how to (re)design an opportunity-rich association for the next generation of product leaders and innovators. It will be awesome, and we hope to see you there.

Chapter Highlights: PDMA  Pittsburgh

PDMA Pittsburgh Sponsors First Annual ProductCamp
PDMA Pittsburgh was a proud sponsor of the first annual ProductCamp Pittsburgh, held September 22 at Carnegie Mellon University. Over 250 product developers, marketers, innovators, and students from the region attended this free "unconference" to learn from leading product management experts. This event was structured and led by the people attending it, creating a collaborative atmosphere for everyone in attendance.

Greg Coticcia, PDMA Pittsburgh Board Member and Executive Director of CMU's Master of Science in Product Management, brought the event to Pittsburgh, and it was a huge success.

PDMA Pittsburgh had a booth displayed in the sponsor area where many interested product development professionals passed through. We look forward to sponsoring this valuable event next year.

Chapter Highlights: PDMA  Philadelphia
The Future of Product Development

Philadelphia PDMA held the chapter's first event of the 2018-2019 program on October 3. The session was an informative presentation of the future of product development starting with a historical perspective and looking out to consider the impact that a ubiquitous ecosystem will have on future products. Whether referred to as the Internet of Things, smarter planet, digital transformation or another phrase relating the connectivity and interoperability of previously disparate systems, what is undeniable is the impact that technological advancements are having.

Machine learning, artificial intelligence and adaptive systems are all emerging technologies that contribute to this new outlook, an outlook that requires:
  • An emphasis on the ecology of products in which the tangible product is a component of the larger experience
  • Enablement of products to capture operational data but also to automatically respond to numerous data sources
  • Facilitation of distinct products to extend beyond conventional boundaries to capture the customer journey and deliver greater value
Many thanks to our host, Design Science, and our renowned guest speaker, Stephen B. Wilcox, for an engaging program and experience.
