Important Updates to PDMA's New Product Development Professional (NPDP) Certification Program
|
PDMA completed a major update to the NPDP preparation material and exam to keep the NPDP certification program up-to-date with evolving industry trends, knowledge and best practices in new product development and management.
As part of this update, PDMA expanded the content covered on the NPDP exam from 6 to 7 sections:
- Strategy
- Portfolio Management
- NPD Processes
- Culture, Teams, and Organization
- Tools and Metrics
- Market Research
- Life Cycle Management - New!
PDMA also revised the format of the exam, moving from a static 200-question exam to an expanded question bank format. This will ensure that each candidate receives an NPD exam that is "unique" and pulls randomized questions from the expanded question bank.
The new exam will be rolled out globally to all NPDP candidates beginning May 1, 2017.
The information on PDMA's website reflects the content update and we strongly encourage you to view the following webpages if you are interested in pursuing the NPDP certification in 2017:
NPDP Program Expansion in China
PDMA announced a new partnership with the Training Center of the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, P.R.C. (TCSAFEA) to bring the NPDP certification program to China on a local level. This partnership allows candidates in mainland China to apply for and take the NPDP exam through TCSAFEA, instead of submitting an application to PDMA and taking the NPDP exam through Prometric. This means that all candidates located in mainland China will now work with TCSAFEA to become NPDP-certified and will be able take the NPDP exam during any of the scheduled exam windows that TCSAFEA hosts annually. Candidates can apply for the NPDP exam by visiting:

Competing Against Luck
by Clayton M. Christensen, Taddy Hall, Karen Dillon, and David S. Duncan.
Review by Teresa Jurgens-Kowal, PhD, NPDP.
Like many new product development professionals (NPDP), I am a big fan of Clayton Christensen's work. His latest book,
Competing Against Luck
, with co-authors Taddy Hall, Karen Dillon and David S. Duncan, does not disappoint. Filled with classic stories of innovation success, the text instructs how to drive business growth from a customer-centric viewpoint.

Call For Papers: Special Issue of JPIM
|
JPIM Special Issue: "Value Capture in Open Innovation Systems: Value at the Surface"
The purpose of this special issue, "Value Capture in Open Innovation Systems: Value at the Surface" is to spur research on an important gap in the literature on open innovation: The interface of value creation and value capture in open innovation systems.
The aim is to provide insights on open innovation strategies of actors over time resulting in the four basic configurations as outlined above (i.e., studying these four configurations over time through the lens of value creation and value capture).
We encourage manuscripts that go across markets and industries, and take a global perspective. We further welcome diversified methods (qualitative or quantitative, or mixed), including comparative history analysis and case study to enrich our understanding of social innovation in the interconnected world.
