PEEK at the Week: June 4
PEEK into the PAST: Pictured above is a snapshot of a newspaper article featuring the Dover Chamber's 80th anniversary in the year 2000.

Here is an excerpt from the text: "On April 16, 1920, 623 members were sworn in and the Dover Chamber of Commerce gained its official charter on April 20. The individual annual membership fee cost about $25 and in the first year of operation, the Chamber expended $16,006.88, leaving a balance of $54.18 in the bank. At the beginning of the 21st Century, the Chamber has about 475 members enlisted."

For more historical content, check out the Chamber's Instagram and Facebook . Peek into the Past is a special section running in PEEK this year to signify the 100th anniversary of the Chamber.
Community Happenings
A community letter from Dover Police Chief Bill Breault
To the Dover Community:

Given recent events that have unfortunately occurred throughout the country, as your Police Chief, I want to reassure you that the women and men of the Dover Police Department remain steadfast in protecting the constitutional rights of everyone. Now more than ever, as we move through these events together, I call on all community members to demonstrate respect and compassion for one another.

As your Police Chief, I want to express my own thoughts and feelings regarding what I saw occur in Minneapolis. I am outraged by the action and inaction of those who took an oath to protect and serve and am saddened by the tragic loss of human life. Although this current incident occurred many states away, it has eroded the very same public trust we have worked so hard to achieve.

Green and White Day on Friday to honor DHS Seniors
To help acknowledge that this is a different graduation season, Dover High School is asking the community to participate in a city-wide Green and White Day on Friday, June 5.

During a two-hour window between 10 a.m. and noon, DHS seniors and their families will be encouraged to drive through the community, particularly Central Avenue from the Weeks Crossing to Durham Road and then onto Alumni Drive. They are asking that local businesses acknowledge the class on their existing signs and deck the area out in front of their businesses in green and white.

COAST to resume more fixed-route services, including Route 41cc, and transition Route 40 and 41 from the current Saturday schedule to a new reduced weekday schedule.

Seacoast Charter School is responding to the closure of school due to the pandemic by creating a Literacy Intervention Program to meet the needs of 300 students in grades K–8.

While we are all stuck inside, Dover Art Walk wants to bring local art and music to your living room! They hope that you will  RSVP and join in on zoom June 5 at 4 p.m.

The Art Center is offering Classic Figure Drawing sessions every Thursday night!

Join a two-hour drawing session with a model with timed poses. All experience levels are welcome. There is no instruction or critique, but artists may share artwork at the end of the session. You are responsible for bringing your own materials. These sessions are open to members and non-members, pre-registration necessary.

The Father’s Day 5K is now a Father’s Day 5-STAY – as in STAY at home and STAY healthy.
Since the Father’s Day 5K is Goodwin Community Health's largest annual fundraiser, they are asking for your help. If you are in a position to do so, will you please consider donating the cost of your race registration, $25 or more, to help them continue to provide essential health care and support services during this emergency?

Saint Mary Academy is excited to announce they are still having their SMA 5K virtually on Father's Day Weekend (June 20,21).
