FROM OUR FACULTY DIRECTOR

2026 marks the 15th anniversary of PEG!

Dear friends and colleagues,

Founded in 2011 by PEG Associate Director Sue Ann Savas, PEG embarked on a journey to lift up evaluation practice and empower organizations with high quality, accessible, data-driven insights. This year, thanks to your collaboration, partnership, and trust, we are celebrating 15 years of commitment to supporting organizations and projects focused on action for social betterment.

With gratitude and excitement, we look forward to continuing conversations about how evaluation can serve your mission. Please don't hesitate to reach out if there's any way we can support you. Here’s to the next chapter of growth, discovery, and lasting impact. We look forward to continuing this journey together!

NEW PARTNERSHIPS

Michigan CASA

PEG is partnering with Michigan CASA on an analytic review of their existing data collection system to track and monitor output data, and to enhance tracking of outcomes and impact. PEG will also be supporting Michigan CASA on development of a new outcome data collection tool. The outcome data collection tool will position Michigan CASA to align their data collection framework with national standards measuring child well-being. That data will be utilized for local and state reporting purposes, and to provide a more comprehensive story of their efforts and impact of their work.

Washtenaw County Public Defender Office

Utilizing the Michigan Indigent Defense Commission (MIDC) Standards as a baseline, PEG is partnering with the Washtenaw County Office of Public Defender (WCPD) to co-create new data collection tools to enhance their understanding of organizational strengths and growth opportunities. Building on existing data strategies within WCPD, PEG and WCPD will utilize a mixed-methods approach (surveys, interviews and focus groups) that includes gathering internal and external perspectives on WCPD’s services, attorney training, and impact on clients and the community.

MiSide

In collaboration with the MiSide team, PEG is designing and conducting a process and outcome evaluation to understand and document more about MiSide's disability service provision and coordination. We will utilize a mixed methods approach to learn more about MiEarlyYears systems, practices and services by enhancing their internal evaluation framework and co-creating new data collection tools to support robust data collection that illustrates community impact.

PEG OUT & ABOUT...

PEG Team member Kathryn Colasanti led a workshop on qualitative data collection and analysis for students on the Public Health Action Support Team (PHAST) in the UM School of Public Health. PHAST students assist with public health projects at health and non-profit organizations throughout Michigan, nationally, and globally.

TEAM MEMBER SPOTLIGHT

Sue Ann Savas, PEG Founder and Associate Director

In 2011, PEG was launched with a clear purpose: to support community-based evaluation projects while helping train the next generation of program evaluators. Over the years, more than 50 graduate students have interned with PEG, working directly with community partners and gaining practical, hands-on experience. Many of these former students, now part of Sue Ann’s growing “coaching tree,” have gone on to lead and support nonprofit organizations, work with the government or in academic settings. Several former students have gone on to start their own evaluation firms often under Sue Ann’s continued guidance and mentorship.

"I am where I am today largely because of Sue Ann. Her care, wisdom, and constant willingness to make time for me always made me feel seen and honored on my journey. What is truly remarkable is that Sue Ann has done this for thousands of students over the years. We may never know the full reach of her impact — but we feel it, and we live it, every single day."

-Mary Mattson, Emergence Collective

Sue Ann is a values-forward leader centering integrity, ethics and transparency. At the heart of Sue Ann’s work is the belief that strong, accessible evaluation helps communities build better programs and stronger systems of care. From the beginning, PEG made equitable access a priority by offering one-hour, no-cost consultations so community organizations could receive evaluation support without financial barriers. To date, PEG has provided hundreds of no-cost consultations for community organizations seeking evaluation support.

Sue Ann was recently appointed by the Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners to the Older Persons Millage Advisory Review Committee, a reflection of her deep ties to the community and ongoing work to strengthen services for older adults across Washtenaw County.

"Sue Ann is a real visionary full of useful and fun ideas for the world, nonprofits, her students. It's one thing to meet an ideas person, but it's a whole other thing to meet someone like Sue Ann who is also so generous with those ideas or connections and genuinely wants you to learn and succeed."

-Lauren Beriont, Emergence Collective

Thank you Sue Ann for 15 years of leadership and evaluation excellence!
