As we celebrate our 30th anniversary, we want to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support. Here's what's happening at PEI Kids...
Getting the School Year off to a Great Start!

PEI Kids Prevention Services department presents New Jersey Child Abuse Prevention (NJ CAP) workshops and safety assemblies to over 13,000 students in 70 schools in Mercer County. Students, teachers and parents learn about topics such as child assault and sexual abuse prevention, bullying prevention, and cyber-safety. The workshops are presented in an age-appropriate and interactive format for students in Pre-K to 8th grade (age 3-13 years). As the 2015-2016 school year approaches these programs will be underway thanks to the help of key donors who value the empowerment philosophy and safety messaging and training offered to students via the CAP workshops and prevention curriculum.

Students from Little Kids College (pictured above) received pre-school CAP training during the 2014-2015 school year.
For the 2015-2016 school year, Help for Children/Hedge Fund Cares Foundation has committed $40,000 to help fund NJ CAP workshops in Mercer County schools . The PNC Bank Foundation has donated $15,000 to fund Bullying Prevention workshops in the Trenton Public School District. Additionally, the State of  N ew Jersey   Depar tment of Children and Families provides $46,615  annually to deliver Elementary CAP workshops, Kids On the Block puppet-based assemblies, and early childhood/Pre-K safety workshops. This funding will help cover the cost of supplies, program facilitators,  workshop materials and other expenses associated with delivering these school based prevention programs. We look forward to a great school year ahead educating students on  how to protect themselves, prevent abuse and create a safer school climate.
A Day of Smiles and Laughs with Trenton Circus Squad

We love working with community partners to bring joy to our clients. On July 29th
about 30 participants in our Mother/Daughter Support Group enjoyed performances by the Trenton Circus Squad followed by a demonstration and one-on-one instruction in circus arts. Participants learned how to juggle, walk on stilts, and ride the unicycle. Activities such as this are essential to promoting a positive experience and healthy bonding opportunities between child survivors of sexual abuse and their mothers and the supportive maternal figures in their lives.

The Trenton Circus Squad uses the fun and laughter of circus arts to promote service, build self-esteem and strengthen the fabric of the community. They believe that nothing builds human connection better than a smile and a laugh.  The room filled with laughter as support group participants bonded over the new experiences and activities. One of our young participants said "This was so awesome! I hope they can come again." Dr. Brooks, PEI Kids' Clinical Director, also said "It helps the children to build self-esteem because they are trying new things that they wouldn't normally do. Once participants have mastered the new skills, their faces are beaming with joy." It was a fun evening for all who attended. We look forward to having the Trenton Circus Squad return.
Be A Part of our 10th Annual Wine & Food Tasting Event!

PEI Kids' annual Wine and Food Tasting is one of our largest and most anticipated events. It gets bigger every year thanks to the work our volunteers, committee members, staff, board and community support. There's still time to be a part of making this a memorable evening.  We are looking for community members interested in joining the Wine & Food Tasting Event Committee. Committee members attend bi-weekly meetings, help with preparations, planning, fundraising and staffing the event.

The first committee meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 4th  at PEI Kids' office from 5:30pm-6:30pm. If you are interested in joining the event committee for our 10th Annual Wine & Food Tasting, please contact Jesse Elliot at jelliot@peikids.org or 609-695-3739.
