Supervised Visitation & Transportation Plus Spotlight

PEI Kids' Supervised Visitation and Transportation Plus programs make a huge impact in our community.  In 2013, PEI Kids' Supervised Visitation staff coordinated 1,619 visits between children in the foster care system and their biological parents and siblings. Also in 2013, our Transportation Plus program provided 3,690 hours of transportation services, helping adults and children in the foster care system attend important medical, therapeutic, and other appointments.

When asked what she sees as the community impact of the Supervised Visitation program, Supervised Visitation Coordinator Carmen Alicea said, "when families come to our office for visitation, it is often the one time a week or month family members get to see one another. Our program is crucial for keeping families connected." When

asked the same question about the Transportation Plus program, Director of Support Services Theresa McMonagle stated, "without this service, not only would family members have a very difficult time seeing one another, but their ability to get to important appointments like doctors visits and therapy sessions would be hindered. Access to transportation is often a huge factor when determining the well-being of families in our community."

Princeton Clown Academy Provides Joy for Child Sexual Abuse Clients

On Wednesday, July 30, Clown Academy Trenton provided an evening of entertainment for children and mothers in our Crisis Intervention for Child Victims of Sexual Abuse program. As part of Clown Academy Trenton's 2-week summer camp program, which was free to the public, children trained by the Academy toured the local community, providing live entertainment for local hospitals and community-based organizations.

"The children had a wonderful experience," says PEI Kids' Director of Clinic Services Dr. Juanita Johnson Brooks. "The staff and children from Clown Academy Trenton brought laughter and joy to our clients. I even had one little girl come to our office a week later for counseling and ask, 'are there clowns here?' The experience was really great for us."
