MISSION STATEMENT
Central Oregon Chapter - Professional Engineers of Oregon
"To be actively involved in promoting professional engineering in Central Oregon; to provide an ongoing opportunity for continuing education in the field of professional engineering; to provide awareness and scholarship opportunities to college-bound engineering students from Central Oregon; and to promote and provide assistance to engineers to become licensed while promoting fellowship."
In the news
 
The Central Oregon Chapter awarded two $2750 scholarships to 2 local high school students. Silas Doney is a Gilchrist High School Graduate with an interest in computer and mechanical engineering. He will be attending Oregon Institute of Technology.
 
Rebekah O’Neill is a Ridgeview High School Graduate pursuing a degree in Engineering Sciences at OSU Cascades. She would like to use her knowledge gained in engineering to design better outdoor products. Thank you to this year’s donors to help make this happen!
 
I want to thank Shannon Wedding for her presentation for our May 24th about her iHydrant’s technology. Water utilities and its customer will benefit from this technology to become more resilient against unexpected events.

This month on June 28th at noon we will have Greg Wong with Knife River Northwest (KRNW) This will be a 1-hour webinar. See below invite.

Greg Wong has worked for Knife River Northwest (KRNW) over 28 years and is the KRNW Quality Assurance/Quality Control Manager. Oversees the operations of 12 labs, 7 managers, and 33 technicians. Deals in both asphalt, concrete, and aggregates. Is a member of ACI (American Concrete Institute), OR Chapter of ACI, and ASTM. Actively works on OCAPA’s (OR Concrete and Aggregate Producers Assoc) Technology Committee and APAO’s (Asphalt Pavement Assoc of OR) Technical Committee. Helps facilitate the OCAPA/ODOT CCT Class and a guest speaker for APAO/ODOT CAT-II Greenhorn Class, University of Portland, Portland State University, and Oregon State University. He is a licensed Civil Engineer in both OR and CA.
 
His presentation, “Is Being Green Really Green?”, will discuss KRNW’s challenges in meeting the quickly growing “Green Movement” including the use of limestone cement (Type IL), the implementation of CarbonCure, and KR investing in Blue Planet.

July 26 (tentative) This will be a follow up with Jacob’s Engineering engaging webinar on the Opal Springs Pool Rise and Fish Passage. We would like to take a tour of this facilities. Details to be determined. Timing and logistics are challenging on this one. Please fill out the poll so we have an idea of what works best for our local members.
