PEP Special Presentation: Using PEP Skills to Effectively Communicate Bad News

The UM SOM Program for Excellence in Patient-Centered Communication (PEP), in partnership with the Academy of Communication in Healthcare (ACH), will host a special lunch and learn event on Monday, November 19. 

Presenter: 

Auguste H. Fortin VI, MD, MPH
Professor of Medicine
Director of Communication Skills Education
ACH Fellow

Event Details:

Dr. Auguste Fortin will be the guest speaker at this special session. During the session, Dr. Fortin will introduce best practice protocol for communicating difficult news to patients and families.
About the Presenter:

Dr. Fortin is Professor of Medicine at Yale School of Medicine and Director of Communication Skills Education there. A general internist, he also is Director of Psychosocial Curriculum for the Yale Primary Care Internal Medicine Residency Program.

He is a Master of the American College of Physicians and a Fellow of the Academy of Communication in Healthcare (ACH). He is a past-president and board member of ACH, serving on several committees. Dr. Fortin is a co-author of the textbook of medical interviewing, Smith’s Patient-Centered Interviewing. Professional interests include doctor-patient communication, the psychosocial aspects of medical care, meaning in medicine, mindfulness and professional burnout prevention.

Admission is free, but you must register.


Lunch will be available at 11:45 am. The session will begin promptly at noon with remarks by Dean Reece.
