IB Inquiry Week of October 24th

Our IB attribute focus of the month is open mindedness.

People who are open-minded understand and appreciate their own cultures and personal histories, and are open to the perspectives, values and traditions of other individuals and communities. They seek and evaluate a range of points of view, and are willing to grow from the experience.

Being Open-minded gives us the ability to:

  • listen to and consider the perspectives of others before making a decision
  • understand new ideas and experiences broaden our mind and challenge our thinking
  • understand mistakes
  • learn new things and build on existing knowledge, even if it challenges existing views
  • be an effective team player and collaborator

HOW CAN FAMILIES HELP DEVELOP LEARNERS WHO ARE OPEN-MINDED?

1~Nurture respect and love for all living things

2~ Listen to learn, not to respond

3~ Expose our children to a variety of cultural experiences

4~"Travel" around the world through books and media

5~Learn about how different cultures celebrate holidays

6~Prepare and taste foods from other countries

7~Don’t limit our friendships to people who look or live like us

A Message from Health Services

Should my child stay home from school?

In general, the following information is intended to help decide when a student should stay home:

  • Fever of 100 degrees or more. The student is to stay home for 24 hours after the temperature returns to normal without the use of fever reducing medication.
  • Vomited or had diarrhea. The student is to stay home until 24 hours after the last episode.
  • Any uncontrolled cough.
  • Rash for which you do not know the cause. Check with your family physician/clinic before sending the student to school.
  • If feeling ill/unwell and will not be able to fully participate in school activities.

COVID testing is recommended for students with COVID illness symptoms. Tests are available at school. If your student tests positive, notify the school attendance line and a health services staff member will follow-up with the appropriate guidance.

When keeping your child home call the 24 hour school attendance line to report the illness at 952-928-6604.

2022-23 Application for Educational Benefits

We encourage ALL families to fill out an application for educational benefits for the 2022-23 school year.

If families complete the form and qualify, your child will be eligible for free or reduced priced meals and other educational benefits (described below).

How to Apply

The application can be filled out in a number of different ways including online through your Wordware or PowerSchool account, or by filling out a paper copy.

If you need assistance filling out an Application for Educational Benefits, contact the School Nutrition Department at 952-928-6146.

We want to hear from you! The school nutrition staff in St. Louis Park Public Schools are focused on providing high quality meals and experiences to the students we serve every day. We encourage all elementary, middle, and high school students and parents to please complete this short survey.
