Hello Peter Hobart Community,

I first wanted to remind you there is NO SCHOOL TOMORROW FOR STUDENTS as it is a District Professional Learning Day.

Happy Black History Month! Our Peter Hobart PTO has done a great job of finding ways to celebrate the contributions of African Americans and to honor and recognize their sacrifices. They have curated list designed to give your family some ideas and activities that might work for you to help celebrate and start conversations around African American contributions this month. We will share part of the list each week here on the PH Communicator. Please also subscribe to the PTO Newsletter so you don't miss great resources like this as well as upcoming events!

- Email [email protected] to asked to be subscribed-

Please note, the activities with a *star are hosted at Peter Hobart. Enjoy the month!

IB Inquiry Week of January 30th

This week many of our students participated in the Global Day of Play.

In 2015, the first Global School Play Day was held in schools around the world. Over 65,000 students participated in the event for the first year, and last year over 300,000 students, in more than 30 countries around the world participated!

This day was created to bring awareness about the necessity of unstructured play for children.

Boston College psychologist and professor Peter Gray writes, "Children, by nature, learn through self-directed play and exploration. In play they practice the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual skills essential to healthy development."

Play

  • Boosts Creativity
  • Teaches Social Skills
  • Develops Critical Thinking Skills

Interest Form for the Policy 506 Student Behavior

On Aug. 10, 2021, the St. Louis Park Public Schools School Board unanimously approved and updated Policy 506 Student Behavior Intervention (formerly Student Discipline) to align with the mission and vision of the 2020-25 Strategic Plan for Racial Equity Transformation, reduce exclusionary practices that are highly punitive and racially predictable, include the use of non-exclusionary behavior interventions such as Restorative Practices, and center the humanity of students. A team will convene to develop procedure recommendations.

Purpose: Create procedure recommendations that embody the restorative commitments of Policy 506 and the mission/vision of St. Louis Park Public Schools.

Scope: Research, best practices (Restorative Practices and trauma-informed practices as two examples), and input from stakeholders will inform the work. Team members are expected to understand the current policy, and encourage the engagement, input, and feedback of all stakeholders. Team members will develop a recommendation that supports our district mission to see, inspire, and empower each learner to live their brilliance in an environment that centers student voice and experience to create racially equitable learning that energizes and enhances the spirit of our community.

If you are interested in participating in the development of the procedures for Policy 506 Student Behavior Intervention, please complete the form below by Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2023. Contact Flower Krutina, [email protected], with any questions.

High Rates of Illness at School

Masks are Highly Encouraged. Stay Home When Sick and Slow the Spread of Illness

We are seeing unusually high rates of illness in multiple SLP schools, in particular, influenza (flu) and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). These viruses can be easily spread through close contact when people cough, sneeze, and talk.

Please help partner with us in an effort to prevent the spread of illness by following our illness guidelines:

Situations when your child should stay home:

  • Fever of 100 degrees or more. The student should stay home for 24 hours after their temperature returns to normal without the use of fever reducing medication.
  • Vomiting or diarrhea. The student is to stay home until 24 hours after the last episode.
  • Any uncontrolled cough.
  • Rashes with unknown causes. Check with your family physician/clinic before your student returns to school.
  • If feeling ill/unwell and the student is unable to fully participate in school activities.

If your child displays symptoms of influenza or RSV, you can reach out to your child’s health care provider to see if testing for these illnesses is recommended. For information about influenza and RSV please refer to the Parent Fact Sheets from Hennepin County

Public Health:

  • Influenza information can be found HERE
  • RSV Information can be found HERE

Thank you for helping to prevent the spread of illness!

Familias Latinas High School SLP Facebook Page
