IB Inquiry Week of February 6th

Black Lives Matter at School Week

This week is Black Lives Matter at Schools Week. The goal of the Black Lives Matter at School Week is to spark ongoing engagement with critical issues of social justice.

Issues and principles focused on include:

  • Restorative Justice
  • Empathy
  • Loving Engagement
  • Diversity
  • Globalism
  • Identity Affirmation
  • Collective Value
  • Intergenerationalism

Week after week, our Peter Hobart fifth graders share that racism is an issue they feel the passionate about addressing in making our world a better or more peaceful place. As an IB World School, we are committed to taking action for positive change relating to human rights, equality, and equity. We take the responsibility and commitment of partnering with you to develop knowledgeable, inquiring young people who can take this action to heart.

In the words of Alexis M, an IB student from the state of Washington:

“No matter what you choose to partake in, the two things to remember are — everyone has a role in change making and there is always something you can do to better our society. There is always something to learn; growing is what makes us great and it is what will put the next generations in a position of excellence.”

High Rates of Illness at School

Masks are Highly Encouraged. Stay Home When Sick and Slow the Spread of Illness

We are seeing unusually high rates of illness in multiple SLP schools, in particular, influenza (flu) and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). These viruses can be easily spread through close contact when people cough, sneeze, and talk.

Please help partner with us in an effort to prevent the spread of illness by following our illness guidelines:

Situations when your child should stay home:

  • Fever of 100 degrees or more. The student should stay home for 24 hours after their temperature returns to normal without the use of fever reducing medication.
  • Vomiting or diarrhea. The student is to stay home until 24 hours after the last episode.
  • Any uncontrolled cough.
  • Rashes with unknown causes. Check with your family physician/clinic before your student returns to school.
  • If feeling ill/unwell and the student is unable to fully participate in school activities.

If your child displays symptoms of influenza or RSV, you can reach out to your child’s health care provider to see if testing for these illnesses is recommended. For information about influenza and RSV please refer to the Parent Fact Sheets from Hennepin County

Public Health:

  • Influenza information can be found HERE
  • RSV Information can be found HERE

Thank you for helping to prevent the spread of illness!

Familias Latinas High School SLP Facebook Page
