Greetings Peter Hobart Families,

One of the highlights this week at Peter Hobart was the presentation of the Elder's Wisdom Children's Songs by our 4th grade Talent Development classes! Bridging the gaps between generations, cultures, and music our talented students sang songs based on the stories from Elders in our community. From celebrating Elders' wisdom this week, to welcoming incoming Kindergarteners and their families next week, every week brings new amazing memories with your students.

Thank you for being a part of the Peter Hobart community!

POLICY REMINDER

Cell Phones and Personal Devices* “Away All Day”

Peter Hobart expects responsible use of personal electronic devices if they are brought to school. This means that upon entering the school building (from 7:28 am – 2:15 pm) all personal electronic devices may only be used for family emergency situations.

Cell phones and personal electronic devices for students must be kept in a backpack (turned off) and cannot be used during the school day. If a cell phone or smart watch is causing a distraction, parents should be contacted by the classroom teacher. Students using personal electronic equipment during the day without teacher permission may lose possession of the item, and parents may be asked to pick the item up in the school office. Personal electronic devices such as laser pointers, electronic games and devices, are not allowed at school.

If it is essential that a child needs to bring a phone to school, by family request, the phone is expected to remain in the student’s backpack during the school day. Students or families not comfortable with keeping their phones in their backpacks may check them in to the main office in the morning, and then pick them up at dismissal.

Phones and personal devices may not be used at lunch, recess, hallways or bathrooms.

Peter Hobart is NOT responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged electronics. Staff members have a right to take away your electronics at any time. The school does not assume responsibility for lost, stolen or broken property. The school will not investigate issues related to the above. Due to student privacy, students are not allowed to take videos or pictures, or post on social media using a personal device.

*All of this policy applies to Smart watches as well!

  • Theme: Consistency across classrooms
  • Community Idea: Implement regular assessments to monitor and support students’ academic progress.
  • Action: Staff uses a balanced assessment system from the Minnesota Department of Education. We use a combination of State Standardized assessments (MCAs and ACCESS), Universal Screening (FastBridge and NWEA), and curricular classroom assessments (Collaborative Literacy and Bridges). By triangulating this data in teams, we are able to monitor and support students’ academic progress.
