Dear Peter Hobart Families,

Summer EBT, now known as SUN Bucks, returns for Summer 2025. This program gives families $120 for each eligible student to help them buy groceries when school is out of session.

Benefits of SUN Bucks:

  • It helps parents and caregivers buy healthy foods for their children.
  • It gives families flexibility to select foods that fit their culture and lifestyle.
  • Improves food security and diet quality for participating children.

Eligibility:

Students can be eligible for Sun Bucks in any of the following ways:

  • Their household participates in MFIP, SNAP, MA, TANF, or FDPIR; they are experiencing homelessness, are migrants, are runaways, or are in foster care.

  • They attend a school participating in the National School Breakfast and Lunch Programs and have an approved application for free or reduced-price meals on file by August 31, 2025.

If you have not yet submitted an application for educational benefits (meal application) this school year, you can get an application from our nutrition staff or front office or by calling 952-928-6600

To receive your SUN Bucks benefits it is important to ensure that your student's legal parent/guardian and correct address are on file with your student's school.

How SUN Bucks Works:

The benefits will be provided on a separate SUN Bucks card that is mailed to you. Families will receive $120 per eligible child to be used at authorized retailers to purchase qualifying foods. Visit the SUN Bucks website to learn more.SUN Bucks

Children and teens need healthy food year-round to play, grow, and learn. SUN bucks help families stretch their grocery budget during the summer and provide their children with the nutrition they need to thrive.

Sincerely,

Georgia Miller-Kamara MSW, LSSW, LICSW

School Expectations for Recess Play & Student Conduct

As we approach Spring Break, we have noticed that there has been an increase in physical interaction between students during recess, and we are seeking your partnership to reduce potentially inappropriate behaviors. We do not believe that the interactions we are seeing are intended to be harmful or malicious, but we’d like to encourage positive social interactions while ensuring the safety and well-being of all students.

Our Student Handbook outlines expectations for student conduct, including appropriate physical interactions during school activities. You can find more information about these practices on our website.

To support these guidelines, we ask for your assistance in the following ways:

  1. Discuss Appropriate Physical Interactions: Talk with your child about what types of physical contact are acceptable during play, emphasizing respect for personal boundaries.
  2. Encourage Open Communication: Encourage your child to express their comfort levels and to speak up if they feel uncomfortable with any physical interactions. They can always go to a trusted adult at school for support.
  3. Reinforce School Policies: Review and discuss the school's expectations regarding student conduct as outlined in the Student Handbook, ensuring your child understands the importance of these guidelines.

By working together, we can create a safe and respectful environment that promotes positive interactions among all students.
