Greetings Peter Hobart Families,

We hope that your spring break was

restful and rejuvenating! Coming back from spring break brings us immense PH Pride not only because we got to see all of your amazing students again, but because on Sunday, Peter Hobart alum, Paige Bueckers, took home the Women's NCAA Basketball National Championship! Back in 2022, Paige helped renovate the PH basketball court to give back to her community.

Ms. Hortsch's class went out to the court on Monday for a photo-op, and to congratulate Paige on her win!

Being a member of the Peter Hobart community gives you the means for each student to succeed! Thank you for being a part of it!

Dear Peter Hobart Families,

Summer EBT, now known as SUN Bucks, returns for Summer 2025. This program gives families $120 for each eligible student to help them buy groceries when school is out of session.

Benefits of SUN Bucks:

  • It helps parents and caregivers buy healthy foods for their children.
  • It gives families flexibility to select foods that fit their culture and lifestyle.
  • Improves food security and diet quality for participating children.

Eligibility:

Students can be eligible for Sun Bucks in any of the following ways:

  • Their household participates in MFIP, SNAP, MA, TANF, or FDPIR; they are experiencing homelessness, are migrants, are runaways, or are in foster care.

  • They attend a school participating in the National School Breakfast and Lunch Programs and have an approved application for free or reduced-price meals on file by August 31, 2025.

If you have not yet submitted an application for educational benefits (meal application) this school year, you can get an application from our nutrition staff or front office or by calling 952-928-6600

To receive your SUN Bucks benefits it is important to ensure that your student's legal parent/guardian and correct address are on file with your student's school.

How SUN Bucks Works:

The benefits will be provided on a separate SUN Bucks card that is mailed to you. Families will receive $120 per eligible child to be used at authorized retailers to purchase qualifying foods. Visit the SUN Bucks website to learn more.SUN Bucks

Children and teens need healthy food year-round to play, grow, and learn. SUN bucks help families stretch their grocery budget during the summer and provide their children with the nutrition they need to thrive.

Sincerely,

Georgia Miller-Kamara MSW, LSSW, LICSW

School Board Listening Session on April 22 from 5-6:30 p.m.

Educational leaders from across Minnesota have shared feedback with the Minnesota Department of Education about the U.S. Department of Education letter. The letter details information on Title VI and SFFA v. Harvard. While next steps are still being determined by MDE and the Attorney General’s office, we’d like to provide an opportunity for the SLP community to share their voices on this matter. Please attend this listening session to share your thoughts! The listening session will be held in the school board meeting room (Room 21) at 6300 Walker Street on April 22 from 5-6:30 p.m.

Free Upcoming Immunization Clinic for Children

SLP is partnering with Hennepin County Public Health to host a free walk-in immunization clinic on Wednesday, April 30, from 2 - 6 p.m. at St. Louis Park Middle School. This event is open to children of all ages, up to the age of 18 years. All children are welcome.

Minnesota law requires all K-12 students to be up to date on immunizations or have an exemption on file to attend school. This clinic provides an opportunity for students to meet these requirements, and keep the community healthy.

  • Theme: Consistency across classrooms
  • Community Idea: Standardize communication practices across classrooms.
  • Action: Classroom teachers reach out bi-weekly to families to give them updates on classroom learning, upcoming events, and student experiences. Some grade levels utilize a newsletter and others have updated Google Sites. Many classrooms also use Seesaw as a way to showcase student work with families. We will continue to work on streamlining communication so families have frequent access to student learning and experiences.
