Parents for Kids Health Update

Greetings! I hope everyone has enjoyed this time, with fewer restrictions, mask-free schools, team sports, and anticipating the rapidly approaching summer vacation! This update will cover a variety of topics - PFKH's focus, increasing accessibility to great books, a new monitoring system, and statements from local candidates for the 2022 election!

As we find ourselves in another worldwide narrative shift, we shouldn't need to be reminded of one of our most important responsibilities - shielding our kids. We do this while creating an environment where kids can simply be kids! Ensuring they are insulated from the toxic nature of this world but also allowing them to experience it through our pre-set filters.

Parents for Kids Health was established to inform, encourage and support parents with taking an active role in their family's total health. Providing connections to information, local resources, and others within the community while keeping a watch on those in decision-making positions. Our purpose is to empower parents to take a stand now for their family's total health so our children have something to stand for in the future.

Parents for Kids Health divides our focus of total health into 'Seven Pillars' - Nutrition, Movement, Recovery, Spiritulness, Environment, Mindfulness, Education. Each pillar represents a central aspect, and when we focus on each, complete health is achievable. When one pillar loses its ability to provide support, total health falters.

Increasing Access to Quality Books

Over the past year, I've repeatedly heard the concern from parents regarding the content of books for their children, especially in public school/library settings. I recently took steps to provide families, homeschool groups, churches, daycare/preschools and other education centers with books of high-quality, inspirational, and educational content as one way to help change this concern. For those that may not be able to access books through one of these options I will work with local businesses, and other non-profits, to get books where they are needed!

As you know, great books benefit kids by increasing the time they spend with loved ones while growing their own library, raising knowledge, and boosting their confidence. These are only a few of the positive outcomes of enjoyable books!

Reading books of value impacts their lives now and forever. In 2022 21% of adults1 in the US are considered illiterate while 54% of adults have literacy below the 6th-grade level. There is a direct connection between low literacy rates and criminal behaviors 2 with over 60% of the US prison population being 'functionally literate'.

If you are interested in increasing your child's collection of exceptional books or if you know of an organization that can benefit from increasing the number of books they have on hand please contact me at the links below to discuss options.

Wastewater Monitoring

Although it may be difficult to notice the direct connection between all the worldly chaos, where we find ourselves now is fairly clear. One does not have to look hard to see new systems taking shape, one of those systems is monitoring wastewater.

In NC, NCDHHS tests samples of wastewater selected from treatment plants across the state. We have seen the treatment plants that monitor these samples grow in the last few months.

Davie County

Multiple candidates in Davie County were asked to provide a statement to Parents for Kids Health regarding their run in the 2022 election. Many candidates provided statements quickly while some have yet to respond.

Sincere appreciation is extended to those who provided their statements! While PFKH will not fundraise nor endorse any candidate, it is great to see the dedication to our community from these candidates! A focus on the total health of our community should be woven into every candidate's platform.
