A MESSAGE FROM EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR DONALD MIYAZAKI
Earlier today, PGA of BC Executive Director Donald Miyazaki issued an address to all member Professionals:

"Dear Members,

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has affected our industry in an unprecedented manner which has led to difficult decisions made by both members and facilities. Like you, the PGA of BC hopes that all golf facilities will soon be in a position to return to business as usual, but we also acknowledge that each location is facing its own unique set of challenges.

Our Association’s foremost priority continues to be the safety of guests and staff. No matter how your facility and staff are responding to current circumstances, we encourage all member facilities to utilize the resources available on the  PGA of Canada COVID-19 Member Resource Hub . Here, you will find latest news, best practices, educational webinars, government assistance and other informational resources that may be helpful during this period. Our team has also put together a listing of initiatives available for financial support through the Provincial Government, BC Hydro, FortisBC, ICBC, and other programs specific to British Columbia.  Please click here to view these initiatives .

Recently, the PGA of BC alongside NGCOA Canada BC Chapter has sent jointly signed letters to various Regional Health Authorities to reassure them that operational courses are continually going above and beyond provincial health guidelines and using the best practices that have been identified. For golf courses that are asking for further clarification, it is our hope that working with the Regional Health Authorities will be able to provide credible clarity. We will be sharing additional information and resources as they become available. We highly encourage you to also reference  NGCOA Canada’s resources page .

While these difficult matters may have separated us physically, in many ways it has brought us closer together. The strength of the PGA of BC network through members working together in various forms of communication and media has been enlightening."

SCOTT KOLB RE-ELECTED TO NATIONAL BOARD OF DIRECTORS
The election to determine British Columbia's representative to the PGA of Canada National Board of Directors ended last week with Scott Kolb earning another mandate from his colleagues across the province.

The Executive Professional at Victoria Golf Club was elected to a three-year term on the National Board. Kolb has been serving the role since 2018; his new term will commence as of the PGA of Canada AGM in May.

The PGA of BC would like to thank Dean Kuntz (The Vancouver Golf Club) for putting his name forward as a candidate in this year's election. Thank you also to all Class "A" members who cast their ballots.

COMPLETE SHORT QUESTIONNAIRE ON OPERATIONS AMID COVID-19
In recent weeks, many golf facilities have adjusted their operations in light of COVID-19, taking a number of measures to keep their staff and patrons safe, or closing altogether.

No matter what decision was most appropriate for your facility, the PGA of BC applauds all members for their diligent, continued efforts in the interest of public health.

Many courses and facilities that opted to close for a period of time, or delayed their scheduled opening to the season, are starting to welcome golfers back to their properties. The PGA of BC is hopeful to obtain a more comprehensive look at facilities' adjusted opening plans.

We kindly ask that Head, Executive and Head Teaching Professionals from each facility -- or the senior Class "A" or Apprentice at facilities without a member in one of those categories -- complete a brief questionnaire on their location's plans to re-open. This survey will take only one minute to complete, and the information you provide will be of great use regardless of your facility's current status or plans.

Please be advised that further supports are available through the provincial government, such as a one-time, tax-free $1,000 payment via the BC Emergency Benefit for Workers. BC Hydro is offering bill payment plans, deferments and grants to customers, while ICBC is providing no-penalty deferments on monthly payments for 90 days. FortisBC has also established a Customer Recovery Fund for both residential and commercial customers to address current circumstances.
