FACT OF THE WEEK
The PGA of BC has defined its "modern era" as being from 1970 to present, as this coincides with the inaugural PGA of BC Championship being played 50 years ago.

However, the Assistants' Championship has a history that dates back even further. The event started as the City Assistant Professionals' Tournament in 1948, which was won by Roy Heisler , a member of the Professional staff at Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club at the time. Heisler won the 36-hole event held at University Golf Club and The Vancouver Golf Club with an 11-over total, beating out Malcolm Tapp by one stroke. By the early 1950s, the event was considered a province-wide championship.
