PGA of BC ANNOUNCES CHANGES TO 2021 CHAMPIONSHIP SCHEDULE
With the potential for restrictions in British Columbia around travel and sport to overlap with the planned opening of the 2021 PGA of BC championship schedule, the Association announced new dates for two events earlier this week.

The Tournament of Champions presented by Tee-On Golf Systems Inc. & PING Canada, which was originally slated for May 31, will now be contested on Aug. 9 at Mayfair Lakes Golf & Country Club in Richmond.

The Assistants’ & Seniors’ Championships presented by Natera Sport & Arbor Memorial Inc. will be played July 19-20 at Kamloops Golf & Country Club instead of their previously scheduled dates of June 7-8.

The adjustments to the championship calendar have prompted a change in the Interior PGA Tour schedule as well. The event originally scheduled for Aug. 9 at Sunset Ranch Golf & Country Club will now be held Aug. 16 to eliminate a conflict with the Tournament of Champions.

Anyone registered for the rescheduled tournaments who is unable to participate on the new dates are welcome to withdraw and receive a full refund of their registration fees. Withdrawals must be made in writing to the PGA of BC administration team no later than 10 days prior to the tournament’s start date. Please note that the Assistants’ & Seniors’ Championships have both reached registration capacity and wait lists have been started accordingly, so it is appreciated if those now unable to compete in the rescheduled events promptly submit withdrawals to accommodate those awaiting access to the field.

The PGA of BC will continue to monitor developments in the province’s actions and response to ongoing public-health challenges as they relate to further events comprising the Association’s 2021 championships.

PGA of BC PROFESSIONAL SPOTLIGHT -- JEFF WIGGINS
Class "A" Professional, The Springs at Radium

PGA of Canada member since: 1997

At which golf facility did you first begin working within the industry, and who was the PGA Professional?
First golf facility I worked at was Holiday Park Golf Course in Saskatoon. Head Professional was Don Ludwig. The year was 1991.

Who has influenced your career the most, and how?
Two PGA of BC members share that acknowledgement: Randy Panton and Laurie Pierce. Both were extremely influential in mentoring me into a well-rounded, complete Golf Professional. It is also noteworthy to mention from the playing side, no one motivated me more to maintain playing ability and fitness more than fellow PGA of BC Professional Cory Draper.

What is your most cherished golf memory?
Having the privilege of playing a round of golf with Lee Trevino. It was a few weeks before I took my PAT and the few private moments we had alone that day were invaluable. He was quick to remind me of the grind I had ahead of me as a Golf Professional, but most importantly the understated and often overlooked impact that Club Professionals have on the business and growth of the sport.

Which significant accomplishments are you most proud of?
Professionally: Receiving the 2012 PGA of BC Golf Professional of the Year Award. Personally: Financial planning and investment outcomes to date.
