PGA of BC CHAMPIONSHIP TEES OFF MONDAY AT RIVERSHORE GOLF LINKS |
The 36-hole championship is making its fourth appearance at Rivershore and first since 2011. Defending champion Keith Martin (Tower Ranch Golf Club) is one of seven past winners in the field but the list of notable contenders for the title goes much deeper, as nearly all of the Association's 2021 champions to date are also expected to compete. Players will be vying for a share of a purse exceeding $34,000 and the opportunity to have their name etched on the William Thompson Trophy.

Please note that caddies and spectators will be welcomed for next week's event. The first-round draw will be released later this week but tee times are scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. on both Monday and Tuesday.

PGA of BC, COBRA PUMA GOLF TO SUPPORT CLUB-LEVEL JUNIOR EVENTS |
Regretfully, the Jack McLaughlin Memorial PGA of BC Pro-Junior Championship presented by COBRA PUMA Golf was unable to proceed in 2021, and the Association looks forward to the event's return next summer.
But as the season begins to wind down for youth golfers across the province, both the PGA of BC and COBRA PUMA Golf are eager to help facilities provide great experiences for juniors participating in season-closing events, wind-ups and other programming in the weeks ahead.
Though last year's Jack McLaughlin Junior Challenge was a successful event with great participation at many PGA of BC facilities in 2020, the administration team acknowledges that many of our locations may not have the capacity to take on additional programming this year amid another busy season.
As such, all PGA of BC facilities are being offered the opportunity to receive additional prizing toward their existing junior programming courtesy of the Association and COBRA PUMA Golf. Prizes provided to facilities can be awarded to juniors at the discretion of Professionals. Examples may include prizing for closest-to-the-hole or other contests that are part of Junior Closing Days.

APPLY NOW FOR PGA of BC SCHOLARSHIP & BURSARY PROGRAM |
Members are reminded of the opportunity to apply for the 2021 Jim Gibson Scholarship and PGA of BC Community Leadership Bursary.
The Jim Gibson Scholarship is given annually to an individual within the PGA of BC community that best exemplifies volunteerism and demonstrates dedication to furthering their education to benefit others in a community. The 2020 recipient was Jennifer Greggain (Golf Canada) to assist her pursuit of a two-year master's degree in High-Performance Coaching and Leadership and the University of British Columbia.
The PGA of BC Community Leadership Bursary is awarded to an individual or member facility within the Association demonstrating an extraordinary desire and passion to make a significant difference in the lives of those around them, and in doing so, sets an example of “giving back” that all PGA of BC members can be proud of. The 2020 recipient was Kyla Inaba (Predator Ridge Resort) to benefit the Swing Like a Girl program she oversees and to further her expertise in coaching and instruction.
Both awards are in the amount of $1,000. Applications will be accepted until Sept. 10.

Nate Ollis established a new course record on Monday when the Vancouver Island Club Pro Tour stopped at Ardmore Golf Course.
Ollis (Cordova Bay Golf Course, pictured) posted a 9-under-par 61 to set the new benchmark at the North Saanich facility, winning the event by five shots and taking home $540.
Second place belonged to Derek Orr (Iron & Wood Golf Simulators), who carded a 66 to collect $440, while Callum Ashby (Highland Pacific Golf) rounded out the top three with a 67 worth $300.

The Interior PGA Tour was also in action Monday at Sunset Ranch Golf & Country Club, where Mark Kitts (Shadow Ridge Golf Club, pictured) took down the victory. Kitts managed a 1-under-par 71 at the Kelowna course to earn a one-stroke victory and a $500 payday.
Keith Vandenbrink (Vernon Golf & Country Club) was the solo second-place finisher, pocketing $380 after shooting 72. A three-way tie for third at 73 saw Mark Strong (Sagebrush Golf Club), Jesse Crowe (Overlander Golf & Events Centre) and Ryan Stugis (GolfTEC Kelowna) earn $290 apiece.

Lastly, the G&G Tour also had an Order of Merit-counting event at Chilliwack Golf Club on Monday with Brett Webster (Cedar Ridge Golf Course & Driving Range, pictured) coming out on top. Webster coming out on top. Webster started 2-over through two holes but made six straight birdies to end his front nine en route to a 6-under 66 and a two-shot victory worth $600.
Dave Zibrik (Point Grey Golf & Country Club) and John Shin (Northview Golf & Country Club) shared second place after both shot 68 to collect $475 each.

Who has influenced your career the most, and how?
Matt Palsenbarg, Jason Glass - They stole me straight out of university and gave me the opportunity to coach within the Tour Performance LAB.
Which significant accomplishments are you most proud of?
UBC Varsity Golf, TPI certifications, playing my first PGA of BC event this past year (after a seven-year tournament hiatus), being named one of the top golf trainers in Canada, Coach/Consultant of the SFU M&W golf programs for the past three years
What is your favourite golf course in British Columbia, and why?
Tobiano! It's stunning, the Head Professional Shannon McGeady is an absolute gem, and the golf course requires some serious shot making to score.

Next week's TaylorMade Golf & adidas Golf PGA of BC Championship presented by Axis Insurance Group will mark the tournament's 52nd edition. In its history, the event has produced 36 unique champions, with nine of them winning the title multiple times.
The seven past champions teeing off at Rivershore Golf Links when the tournament begins Monday include four-time winner Bryn Parry (Seymour Creek Golf Centre, 2000, 2008, 2015 & 2019 winner), defending champ Keith Martin (Tower Ranch Golf Club), Kevin Stinson (Cheam Mountain Golf Course, 2018), John Shin (Northview Golf & Country Club, 2017), Brad Clapp (Ledgeview Golf Club, 2012), Edd Boudreau (Gorge Vale Golf Club, 2006) and Mike Haraguchi (Capilano Golf & Country Club, 2005).
